I am making preparations to begin painting 15mm WSS. I would like to start with some "British" units. (Yes, I know early regiments are pre-British.) Since my goal is not to recreate historical battles, but to make interesting and colorful units, I would like to ask: What are your favorite British units for WSS and why? I am including the whole "British" army, infantry, cavalry, artillery, marines. If the unit serves in Spain, Flanders, Germany, it's all fair game. The only "gotta have it" unit on my list is 1st Foot Guards. Since I reside in the USA, I don't have regional loyalties in the UK, but I don't mind if you do . . . OK gents, have at it! Cheers! Among the more colourful might perhaps be the infantry regiments that subsequently, in the 1740s, were authorised to display their Ancient Badges on colours and appointments although it is not known for sure at what date some of these were adopted- They included: Prince George of Denmark's Regiment (or various Colonels') Later the 3rd Regt or the Buffs A Green Dragon The Queen's Regiment of Foot, or Seymour's Later the 4th King's Own Regiment The Lion of England The Irish Regiment of Foot, or Pearce's Later the 5th Regiment St George and the Dragon Various Colonels: Rivers'- Southwell's – Harrison's Later the 6th Regiment The Antelope (said to date from X Saragossa, with no proof Royal Regiment of Ireland (Hamilton's;Ingoldsby's) Later the 18th or Royal Irish Regiment The Harp And Crown. The Lion of Nassau with motto 'Virtutis Namurcensis Praetium' The Enniskillen Regiment or Whetham's Later the 27th (Enniskillen/?Inniskilling) Regiment The Castle of Enniskillen The degree of involvment in the campaigns of the WOSS was varied. |

Hi 42flanker, This message thread was derailed by the infamous BUG. With your permission, I would like to copy/ paste your message into the same conversation happening in the WSS group. I had originally cross-posted but the BUG had other ideas. Cheers!

Galloceit, sure. Be my guest. It was a little of the top of my head, particularly the colonels information (if that is at all relevant to your project requirements). |

Thanks 42flanker, Your comments have been copied to "War of the Spanish Succession Message Board." Your post was very relevant, and in truth, I hadn't even considered the regimental standards. Flags can certainly add a great deal of color to units. It occurred to me that certain British units could be used for different regiments providing they have similar uniforms (facing color, etc.) at 15mm scale the differences might mostly be the standards. I could simply make two standards, one to be used when the unit would represent one regiment, the other standard for the next. I have a feeling many modelers in 15mm scale do this. Cheers!
