"On Oct. 11, 1941, 11 merchants ships from Arctic convoy PQ-1 entered the harbor of Arkhangelsk in northern Russia. It was the second of dozens of Allied convoys that would brave the U-boat-infested waters of the North Sea to deliver vital military aid to the Soviet Union. The USSR was still reeling from the Nazi invasion that launched that summer. The ships carried 193 disassembled Hawker Hurricane fighters, nine Matilda II heavy tanks and 11 Valentine Mark II tanks…" Main page link Armand

It would be worth adding some comment to this, rather than just the link. I thought this was just another story of what difference did the Convoys make to the Soviet War effort. Much discussed here. No, this is specifically about the Valentine tank in USSR hands. Not bad at all. Let us see if this survives the four hour rule though. |

An interesting article worth to read, the title is misleading. Lorenzo |

Oh you surely have. It is all on TMP Talk (on the General Boards where many never go). It is all cunning plan to suppress Tango's input, a move that is not without some support as you might see. The lament has long been the sheer volume of links he provides, with no further added value, other than a direct quote of the opening paragraph. This one is a classic. It takes me to a site I would never had found (or even sought) but which I found very interesting. The idea now is to create a Links Directory instead. Personally I find it difficult to casually browse, rather than specifically seeking some topic, but that may just be me. Anyway, the idea is that such a posting offering nothing more than a link might still stand if it has generated any discussion. Definition of "discussion" is a response within four hours. After that it is liable to be……. "harvested" was the word used. Obviously might take longer, but it gets at least four hours to interest someone. I am torn here. I am a huge Tango fan, but a topic like this does show how it can go wrong. He posts so much content every day that it must be difficult for him to add anything. I think its quality is increasing and indeed this is a much better link than the title suggests. That is the problem of course |

So am I understanding the 4 hour rule correctly? The way I understand the rule: If someone comments on one of Tango's post within 4 hours it will remain on the front page instead of being sent into abyss know as the links page. I love Tango's posts but rarely comment, however, I will certainly make an effort to do so if my interpretation is correct. |
