"At the time of the DWS, there were still 12 Mk XI 234mm guns in the warehouses of the British fleet, with a barrel length of L / 50, most likely from Lord Nelson semi-battleships (their turrets were scrapped in 1938) . Among the ideas for the development of these guns are, among other construction of medium-sized monitors, a smaller version of the Roberts type, probably armed with two pistols each. I suppose that with the proper modernization of the canyons and the modern construction of the towers a range of 30 km could be achieved, which is quite specific. Similar cannons used in coastal artillery at the time, due to increasing the elevation angle to 35 degrees and the use of new missiles and reinforced launch charges, achieved roughly this amount. In the end, none of these plans came to light and the weapons were scrapped in 1943-44. It is a pity, because these ships could be useful, for example, during the landing in Normandy. The shortage of units capable of supporting their own troops is evidenced by the fact that a rather desperate (though otherwise very interesting) idea emerged at the time to convert a series of Hunt escort destroyers into some kind of fast gunboats, armed with 2,152 mm. weapons (by the way, this idea on the blog we did a while ago). The monitors weren't created anyway, but if they were built they could probably look like the simulation below.
