Hi, does any know what would be Sweden "red lines" in case of 3rd WW (during Cold War timeframe)? In bouth cases-Soviets as attacker and as defender. I guess Sweden would be symphatetic toward US (NATO) but I also think they would try to stay neutral as long as posible. Is there any "expert" on Sweden political and military thinking of that period |

I imagine they wouldn't have waded into the conflict unless fired upon (aircraft and naval vessels), or invaded. They were working covertly with the USA and others behind the scenes for the aircraft and other military equipment, and the USA provided them with air-to-air missiles and other equipment. Some stuff was developed in joint ventures. They were definitely sympathetic to NATO and the West. |

No expert on this subject but here are a couple of links that may be of assistance to you Perun from stuff I have come across about possible WW3 in Scandinavia: Organisation of the Swedish Armed Forces 1989 – 91 (in English): link Swedish Defenses during the cold war in Military Area Upper Norrland (Milo ÖN)(HQ Boden) (In Swedish so you will need an online translator): link Also have a look at some other topics under the Swedish Military history since 1925 tab: link Good luck with your search…. |

This is a very interesting book- not just about Sweden in the cold war, but Switzerland, Finland etc. It doesn't exactly answer your question- I don't think many books do- but has quite a few clues. link |

I recall reading that the Soviets/Russians lost at least one Mig, and perhaps more to aerial dogfighting maneuvers low over the Baltic Sea, when the Swedish jets were able to outmaneuver their foe(s) and cause it/them to fall into the sea. Mig-21s vs. Drakens, IIRC, at low level, and low speed. Turns out the Swedish design was superior, and/or at least the pilot(s) was/were. |
