In freezing weather, with cold winds from the south and occasional flurries of driving snow, the Battle of Towton was fought 560 years ago today (March 29). Sometimes described as the bloodiest battle in Britain the melee went on for several hours until Lancastrian forces were driven back in rout. @Frederick I see the error of my ways. I posted this on Monday 29 March (here in Norfolk, UK) but I should have delayed until the server had passed through the dateline. It shows my post as being made on 28 March. Palm Sunday was on 28 March. Barry |
