We had 100 million candle power Xenon searchlights on M48A3's. We'd ride on the back and then deploy and that tanks would shine the light into the treeline for us.

German Leopards and PT-76 had them, maybe T-55's too.

I don't think they were powerful enough to bounce off the clouds.

Wolfhag -- Great story. When we were in Grenda, I had a searchlight on my M60A1. We would occassionally use it to point out a spot near the race track for the helo LZ. On one night, we used it to illuminate houses while we were checking out a report of PRA near a road. The gurnts said that when we hit the front of the house with narrow beam, the whole inside of the house would light up so they could see what was up inside.

Sad they forgot about how they used the artifical moonlight in the second war as well as in Korea too.

All very interesting. Thanks for the intel. When I got to the ROK, '84-'85 then back at Benning with a Mech Hvy Bde[Sep], '86-'90. By then I think all the M60s did not have the Searchlight. old fart
