Just had this idea so it's a bit raw, but bear with me. I had the idea to use Pathfinder Pawns and monster stats converted to BS Skirmish rules to play faster battle scenarios with TONS of choices for monsters and character types. Basically, I thought of breaking down the Pathfinder stats into simplified BS Skirmish -style stat blocks and then running the game with Pathfinder pawns. I gotta crack the books open and see what I come up with. |

Trying to simplify things, but things like spells and individual creature abilities will complicate the bookkeeping portion of the game. Basically you will need sheets for each creature, or at least a scrap of paper with everything jotted down for ease of access. |

BS Skirmish is designed as a miniatures game with a thin veneer of RPG over the top. It is actually more like a combat-centered RPG. It plays quite well, and it can easily replace the 2e AD&D RPG combat rules. It does, truly, speed up combat, without aborting the RPG. I have not played 3.x D&D rules, nor Pathfinder. Can't help in converting PF to 2e BS Skirmishes. Sorry. Remember that Skirmishes is about boiling down combat to its most basic elements, in order to speed up game play. All of the RPG aspects are still present. I've considered switching to Skirmishes for my RPG combat rules, but I know my players really like counting off each and every single HP. Too bad. Combat takes sooo very long to play out… Bear in mind, also, that Skirmish battles are both fast, and deadly! When a creature loses its last Hit, it is "dead, Jim." I hope you succeed in building what you want out of both PF and BS Skirmishes. Cheers |

@Sgt Slag: That's ok, I remember buying the Skirmishes book because you recommended it on these forums. Running adventures with simplified (and deadlier) combat will feel more old school, and the "funnel" that the deadlier rules creates seems like a fun way to increase rather than decrease the attachment players have for their adventurers. Once you survive the first couple of levels with your men, you get to grow attached to your miniature warriors. Basic Pathfinder combat leans toward high-survivability. This is my "roguelike" hack to the game, while also speeding up combat tremendously. Narrative and flavor should not be forgotten, even Diablo 3 (PC game) has a story in addition to all the bloody action. I'm gonna do a game in some snow-covered valleys and mountains, with "vikings" forming the backbone of the player characters. Skalds and berserkers rampant! |

Sounds fun. I hope you report back as to how it went. Cheers! |

Chip, chip, chip away! You will reach the the sky and see the light if you keep swinging that pick-axe at the wall in front of you. I dreamed in High School, back in 1982, about playing out the G1-G2-G3 series of modules with full terrain and full miniatures. I played out G1, around five years ago. I hope to play out G2 in November, and G3 in January. Crossing the finish line on G1 was very sweet, indeed! Looking forward to playing the remaining two modules… Cheers! |

Cool stuff :) Reminds me of how long gaming projects tend to take. |
