Here's the latest unit finally complete – or nearly complete as I forgot to matt the banner down prior to taking the pictures but I positively refuse to go back and retake the pictures now lol. I'll probably post some 360 degree images of the individual bases in a few days so the banner will be seen in completed then. I also thought the banner to be a bit on the bland side but as the Unarmoured Skutatoi basically run of the mill plebs I'm not too anxious about this and will probably go for something similar on the next unit of Unarmoured Skutatoi which I am working on currently. A load more images are available on my Just Add Water Blog here: justaddwater-bedford.blogspot.com/2021/03/unarmoured-early-byzantine-skutatoi.html

Up to your usual Stella standard of brush work. Out of interest when does a a late eastern Roman army become a Byzantine army? I guess the fall of the western empire is dated to Odoacer making himself king of Italy but when did the eastern Romans decided they weren't Romans any more? |

In the minds of the people who lived there, they were Eastern Romans until1453 |

Cardinal Hawkwood has it spot on. I use the word Byzantine merely as a way in which to distinguish between that of the the Western and Eastern Roman Empire. There were some very distinct changes in clothing and armours quite early on as can be seen in some of my earlier posts. This will become much more evident as I move onto the Cavalry arm of the early forces. Even more so when I move into the "Heraclian era" which is where I aim to stop before jumping ahead to the Macedonain and Komnenian dynasties. So, a heck of a lot of painting to do!!! All the armies will feature in display games in some of the UK's premier wargames shows at some point in the future. |

If they fight the way they look they are invincible in the tabletop! |

Thanks again guys :) Legionarius
If they fight the way they look they are invincible in the tabletop That's the curse of the newly painted unit- they will leg it at the first sign of trouble….. actually, coming to think of it, the whole army will count as newly painted as it hasn't seen the table top due to Covid! LOL |
