Anyone heard ANY rumors that Bruce Weigle might be working on rules relating to the 1877-78 Russo-Turkish War? Just hoping.

I would also be interested to hear about these rules, I am currently working on a range for this fascinating conflict in 18mm that will be available through Eureka Miniatures.

I dont see any problem to use the 1871 rules as they are. Weapons havent changed.

Maybe some small changes are necessary. So has 1871 high rating for prussians in CC because their bataillons were stronger than the french bataillons.

From what I remember of 1877, the Turks had sort of rgts made of different types, actice bn, reservists (mustafiz?) Which puts off the system. Not just weapons, troops abilities, tactics are different from 1870.
It needs a lot of tweaking to be accurate.

The 50,000 Winchester repeating rifles the Turks purchased in 1871 had a big effect at Plevna.

Mike, really interested in the Eureka range – any idea when it might become available?

Though must admit I'd prefer a 15mm range that's compatible with Blue Moon or Peter Pig, so I could use it for ‘Great Games' on the North West Frontier against my Brits, Indians and Afghans!

I thought Bruce had retired….?

Basha, Nic has some moulded and I am working on a few more lines now. Nic has Infantry and Cavalry for both sides, I am working on Russian Dragoons and Turkish Light Cavalry ATM. After that, some Artillery.

I thought Bruce had retired….?

He stopped doing the 19thC events and started hosting WWII, using 2mm/3mm.

Many of us were sad to the end of the 1848-71 games, but a GM has to explore new avenues as much as gamers do!

12 or so years ago Bruce told me that he had a buddy with interest in that war. They were talking about producing a book. Seems that nothing as of yet has come of it.

It is a fascinating conflict.

While we're throwing wishes into the wind, I'd also like Weigle books on the Crimean War and various 19th C. South American wars. grin

FWIW, Bruce's web site grandtacticalrules.com is down. I hope this just means it's being revamped to include a lot more photography of his immensely inspiring games.

Links to discussions and photos would be much appreciated.

Wish I could be of more help with that. I only see Bruce at the HMGS cons and he had only run the WWII events at (IIRC) two cons before the shutdown. I didn't play in any, nor take pictures. I remember the Tunisia scenario had the same style of terrain boards he is justly famous for, and the pico-style armor allowed for plenty of maneuver room, long range arty, etc.

Hopefully someone with pics and experiences will chime in.
