Just making sure my card deck is correct. I take two decks and combine them, taking out all the face cards and jokers. |

I think that is what is said in the rules. I have them stashed away somewhere while lockdown is operating. |

Correct. You end up with an eighty card deck, with eight of each of the cards 1-10. |

Correct – the face cards and joker are then used to randomly select the Generals' strategems for the coming battle. |

Thinking about getting these rules but the cards have always seemed a bit ‘obtrusive' in photos of games I've seen. Could you use a bag of small numbered counters/chips instead of the cards, or are the suits important as well as the numbers? |

You can use numbered counters rather than the cards – the suits don't matter. If I'm playing a solo game I use D10's for orders and cards for combat resolution, as the cards won't fit in the smaller grid size I use. |

Meant to add, there are custom made chits available on the author's BigRedBat shop: link |

I would also use the chits from BigRedBat shop, they look much better thatn the cards on the table. |

I tend to use chits for activations, which are placed immediately behind the affected units, and small playing cards for the combat, which are placed at the back of the table. Anyway, however you decide to do it (and some heretics use 10 sided dice!) they are a great set of rules! |
