You were asked – TMP link A catastrophe has struck and destroys your gaming collection. What's the first piece/game/part you buy to restore it? If your collection is large and consists of multiple miniatures eras and/or board games, which era would you restore first or which game would you buy first? 15% said "other (explain)" 13% said "Napoleonic armies" 13% said "WWII armies" |

I have around 50,000 painted figures. Right now I am very much interested in Pirates in the Congo so I would have to replace my Zanzibar group for Congo Adventure and the invading Pirates. All Wargames Foundry. Luckily, that would take only about 100 figures plus terrain.. My biggest loss would be my 75 sets of original Britains figures. |

WW2, British and German, NWE. How I started wargaming and how I'd start all over again. Probably bung some 6mm together to start, then do it properly in 15mm. |

I would have to replace my 28mm AWI armies first. |

I don't know if I would replace any of my armies. I'd probably start a small Imaginations project set in the Balkans sometime in the 1800s. |

I have a customer who lost his collection in the wild fires in the Pacific Northwest. He is rebuilding his 1/6000 fleets. If I lost my collection (20,000 painted figures) I'd start over and focus almost entirely on 6mm and large battles. I have loads of skirmish stuff because that's easy to get opponents for but it's not really my thing. I'm only 57 but I know time is running out… |

I would start a small but entirely different project, no way would or could continue doing Napoleonics |

After regaining my sense of priorities I would concentrate of Civil War relics. No more toy soldiers. H |

I would also start over with 6mm armies – but would go up in scale for some colonial actions not really suited for 6mm |

I forgot to add that I would also consider going back to my youth and use unpainted 1/72 or 1/32 plastic armies, like red and blue AWI forces. |

I put "other" (I won !!) because there was no Ancient option IIRC. I wonder how many of the "other"s did the same ? |

Other clearly since I don't do any historicals presently. The miniatures I'd do first would be for D&D, as that's the game I play most regularly. I would try to approach such a catastrophe as an opportunity. The first thing I would do is settle on a modular storage system, either a repeat of what the lost collection used, or something different I started from scratch. As part of this I would settle whether I would do magnetic basing or not, and if so by what method. Next I'd take a hard look at sourcing via 3D printing. Most likely for sets it would be easier to outsource the actual printing, but doubtless I'd want my own printer for one-offs. Last I'd start using painters for hire to keep from building too large a mountain of unpainted figures. I'd do flocking or shade washes or whatever I felt I had to so they would be "my" figures. And would do the same for a terrain system, and expand it in parallel. P.S. if all the above happened, I *might* start a new scale or genre, such as 15mm WWII. |

I think about this often. I fear it and always wonder what minis I would try to save. I have about 20,000 minis going back to 1975 or so. From 6mm to 28's. I would prolly do 6's only, stay away from Napoleonics and focus on WW2, pike and shot, samurai and Dark Ages to Norman Conquest. Haha, can you tell I've thought about it? Steve |

I have a lot of minis but despite the thousands and thousands of ACW minis I have I would do 6mm Napoleonics as they are my most-gamed minis |

First thing would be to recover/print out my inventory lists. Then figure out where the money to replace stuff is going to come from… :-( |

I don't think I would even try except for maybe sci-fi (since my son likes to play and I use them in my Traveller campaign) and zombies/modern civilian/military forces (which I mostly play solo in my zombie campaign and imagination). |

Probably Gladiators or Three Musketeers. It would be better to start out small to see if I still have the ambition to start over. |

Probably my Vikings. I have around 11,000 painted figures (yes, I can see my life has been misspent!), but I probably don't have the enthusiasm to replace everything. Even in the case of the Vikings, I might well scale things down to more of a skirmish army or a couple of warbands. Actually, in 2012 we had to evacuate due to an oncoming forest fire, and I was able to get most of my 25mm figures in the car, beneath the family photos, memorabilia, the computer (with lists of figures on it), and various necessities. If my figures were ever lost (say in a fire) the first thing I would do is hide the gas can and matches. |
