Years ago I painted up a 1/72 Hat/Zvezda Persian army for a convention. Life intervened and they never got used. Then I was struck by the bargain price of Newline 20mm ancients and bought Macedonians to take on the Persians. Both armies got painted but never used. Very Sad.

Recently I read a very good review of the ancient rules To the Strongest and ordered a copy. SO to try them out I dusted off these armies and started to rebase.

The figs are based on 40mmx40mm bases with 2 stands to a unit. Except for the single stand pike units. For a quick tryout I'm using my DUST mats which have 4in squares.

So next week I'll be trying out the rules with some friends. It feels good to pull out some old neglected figs!

Nice looking figures. Let us know how it goes.

I too play TtS on a 10cm squares grid using 15mm miniatures having 8cm unit frontage.
It works well and a battlefield of 120x80cm is a plus.
Great ruleset, you will have fun.

You rock D6, now throw rocks and brandish spears and do the favorite ancients full contact sport.

Congratulations on your discovery of TtS rules and your rediscovery of 1/72 figures. It's a winning combination! I have several 1/72 ancient armies for TtS and I also use a 10cm grid. I base mine on 90mm frontage and the depth varies depending on unit type. This setup provides great games, I assure you. Cheers and enjoy!

I own the rules and have some figs based up I can use with them. Just need to figure out what to do about the game mat that doesn't include me dropping 100 dollars.

Thanks

John

Lovely figures and gaming surface! That basing is superb!

Slowly rebasing my 20mm armies onto 80mm frontages when I get some time to game TtS! is definitely on the list to play.

Get a roll of heavy brown paper at Home Depot, tape 2 pieces together on the back side, draw the grid with a sharpie, and "texture" the field with craft paints and a wet sponge:

Or, use felt from Joann's or similar fabric store, use the sharpie to put a dot at the corners of the boxes, and "texture with light sprays of various dull colored spray paints:

Thanks Peter! That's a good idea! I really want to try these rules out for my 6mm armies.

I'm pretty sure you'll like TTS!, John.
