"The war in Yemen is "back in full force," the United Nations mediator told the Security Council on Tuesday amid renewed attempts to get the warring parties to talk and U.N. warnings that the country is spiralling toward a massive famine.

Martin Griffiths told the council that there had been a dramatic deterioration in the more than six-year-long war with a Houthi offensive on Marib – the Yemeni government's last northern stronghold – putting millions of civilians at risk.

"We are also seeing other fronts in Yemen opening, including with military escalations in Hajjah and Taiz and Hudaydah. The war is back in full force," he told the 15-member council…"

Wait … you mean there are conflicts going on in the Middle East ?!?!? It must be Wednesday … or any other day of the week …

Looks like Iran is feeling Frisky again. To those not following it, this is a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia (Shia vs Sunni). It quieted down over the last year as the Iranians were running out of money and with the killing of the General coordinating Iranian support for the Houthi Rebels.

I'm sure the United Nations will get it all taken care of ASAP. Do we have a sarcasm emoji?

Whew, that's a relief, since I was worried spontaneous peace might break out at any moment. Everyone needs a hobby, I suppose.

I'm with your there Choctaw. We definitely need one of those.

I wonder how much the resurgence has to do with the current administration's attitude towards the Saudis/Iran/and Israel?

Yes they could send a harshly worded email … I guess … 🤔 They must have files full of those … just change some of names & dates …

It's only a matter of time before this is headlined in the main stream media showing pictures of famine starved children fleeing Yemen. It will be used by politicos to divert attention from other issues. Maybe they will send a few cargo planes of food and then declare victory and then move on to the next crisis. After all it worked so well in Somalia.

How is this a surprise? The Biden* folks have removed the Trump-era designation of the Iranian-backed Houthi Shiite faction in Yemen as a terrorist group. The Houthi faction's reply to this overture was a wave of new missile attacks and suicide bombing attacks… and they included their signature motto, "God is great, death to America, death to Israel, curse on the Jews, victory to Islam."

Lest we forget, the Iranian-backed Shiite Houthi sparked the years-long "Yemen War" after unleashing a wave of attacks against Saudi Arabia and other Gulf States that included suicide bombings, drone attacks, anti-ship missile strikes, mining Gulf waterways and SCUD missile attacks on Mecca, Medina, Riyad, oil fields and airbases.
