… And Rockets Per Day If War With Hezbollah Erupts

"Israel will come under an onslaught of 2,000 rockets and missiles every day during a future war with Hezbollah in Lebanon, OC Home Front Command Maj.-Gen. Uri Gordin warned on Monday.

Speaking at the B'Sheva Conference in Jerusalem, Gordin said that some 2,000 rockets and missiles will be fired at Israel every day and will challenge Israel's military and civil defense capabilities.

"Our enemies on the different fronts need to know that if needed, we will activate a powerful military that has never been seen before," Gordin said…"

Israel only needs to retaliate with 1 missile! war over and problem solved.

Yes, but they may send many more than one …

Yep, and they need to launch at least two – one north, and the other far too the east, in order to take out the Iranian leadership orchestrating, funding, and supplying all these weapons to Israel's enemies.

IDF performed poorly in the war against Hezbollah in 2006 – too much risk aversion, to much emphasis on centralised command via remote control, lack of professionalism in officer corps, too much reliance on technology, poor intelligence gathering and lack of strategic planning.

Just one of a few articles on this issue:

Yes, that is true … but AFAIK they have learned from their failings, etc. My money is still on the IDF …

I think they have learned from 2006 extensively and went beyond to prepare the next round and some, a lot over that.

I don't understand the Gordin man's comments. They sound mostly political. Like a US admiral saying: China could take over Taiwan in less than 72 hours!

Yes, right. They could, but what would be the answer to that before it even occurs..

I agree with that, AFAIK the IDF is very good at fixing things that went wrong, etc., …

No idea if Israel's problems were fixed or not. They've not conducted a similar scale operation since.

I actually suspect a repeat of 2006 even if Israel has fixed things. Hezbollah has a few advantages up it's sleeve that allows them to easily disengage without suffering critical losses and then come back to give the Israeli's headaches.

Actually the Syrian War probably did the most damage to Hezbollah due to the conventional nature of fighting there and associated high casualty rates (1700+ dead Hezbollah fighters).

This could mean Hezbollah's more elite formations (who were regarded as pretty good light infantry) have probably been gutted.

---------------

Note military service in Israel has lost its prestige (or that sense of urgency).

Israel's best and brightest are now actively avoiding military service.

Apparently only 35% of the eligible population serves with the rest exempted through a myriad of reasons – university study, religious requirements, mental illness or other reasons.

This particular comment is damning:

the enlistment rate among Israelis who are obligated to serve has plummeted from 75% to less than 50% in only 20 years.

It means the officer corps will no longer be getting the best possible candidates.
That makes reform a hard thing to accomplish.

Indeed one of the articles mentions how a military intelligence battalion is unable to deploy due to lack of qualified staff.

With those kind of recruitment problems, it gets difficult to implement reforms or initiate intelligent change.

It's the same around the western world.

I would hope that the Syrian War becomes the graveyard from many of the jihadi/radical/terrorist, etc., types. May be wishful thinking ?

Then there is always A'stan. The Taliban, AQ, ISIS, etc., in that area could be kept busy killing each other off for decades to come. But IIRC the Talis and AQ are "Allies"? …

We'll see when the US, etc., pulls out in a few months, IIRC. But I think we all know how this is going to workout …

arealdeadone21 Mar 2021 5:49 p.m. PST

Legion,

I don't think the US will pull out. US President has always stated he prefers to maintain special forces etc in these country including Afghanistan.

Furthermore he wants to delay any withdrawal to the end of his current term (2023 at the earliest).

Biden is basically pro-forever war.

Sure that it is. But when you re the fastest growing religion on the planet and scheduled to the biggest on the planet by 2070, and when the main driving force in that religion is ultra-conservativism/fundamentalism then there's plenty of recruits eager to join.

We have SF all over the world, IIRC in 135 nations. Of course that is probably the unclassified number, AFAIK.

Yes, I know as we said before the population of that religion is outgrowing the West many times over. It does not bode well for us "infidels" …

Biden is basically pro-forever war.

I have to be careful here … it is hard to not mention this when talking about this topic.

I am very, very, upset about the current Admin's handling of almost everything they touch. But I do like my stimulus checks ! 💰
