Chuckle, chuckle, every time I see that cover. Regardless of what it says on the inside of the cover, that is a nice shot of a US Navy F2A, piloted by one LCDR Joseph Clinton ("Jumpin' Joe") Clifton during his early war stay at NAS Miami in the Operational Training Command before taking over as CO of VF-12 in January 1943. One might note the lighter colored wingtips and rudder, those would have been orange typical of the training command. See link |
