"The United States military is currently seeking to replace its M4 Carbine and M249 squad assault weapon (SAW), while the M240 could also soon be replaced by a more modern platform. And while the M240's replacement could even fill the role employed by the M2 .50 caliber, it isn't likely the "Ma Deuce" will be retired anytime soon. A good listing. I have my father-in-law's M1911 from WW2 and was issued one in a number of assignments while in the US Army.

Jim

P.S. Don't you like the camouflage on the M-60 gunner's helmet!!

The .50 caliber shell is used by all branches in some form or another including the long distance sniper rifle of Spec Ops fame. Something about a "Quarter Pounder" says it all.

True that as to "Ma Deuce"

One of my old buddies was US Special Forces – loved the 1911 Colt, his time proven back up weapon

As to never buying new ones, the same thing for the Canadian Army – they bought so many Browning Hi-Power pistols in WWII they didn't buy any new ones and are replacing them in 2022

Thanks!.
