Hi, Anyone have any information regarding number of T-26s operational in Stalingrad/Caucasus in 1942? I've seen photos of late model T-26s marked as near Stalingrad but no unit info. |

There were very few T-26s left in service by the time of the Stalingrad campaign, and they were not included in primary tank formations. I would suggest they would have been part of one of the Rifle Divisions involved in the campaign, most of which had a "Separate Tank Battalion" support formation which may have been comprised of "left overs" like T-26s and other obsolete AFVs. A Soviet tank battalion on paper would have x30 or so tanks – x3 10-tank companies, broken into x3 3-tank platoons and one command tank. There were also some "specials" built on the T-26 chassis running about – flame tanks, bridging units, 76mm recoilless rifle tanks, etc. |
