… Guardsman In Their War On 'Sexism' "Military ranks such as rifleman and guardsman could be scrapped as defence chiefs embrace gender- neutral language. The Ministry of Defence is drawing up an ‘inclusive language guide' that could change many traditional titles and terms for the Army and Royal Navy. There is even speculation among some in the Armed Forces that the drive to modernise the services could mean personnel no longer address senior ranks as ‘sir'…. Main page link Armand |

Well "rifles" are a symbol of white supremacy after all. They should turn in their rifles immediately and carry flowers instead. |

Clearly this IS one of the most vital issues of our day in the arena of military defense for a nation. Thankfully, more pressing issues like: budget concerns, force cuts, lack of funding for new weaponry and personnel, threats to energy security in far off lands, terrorism, and strengthening enemies are not an issue that they/we need concern ourselves with (heavy, dripping, sarcasm intended, in case you couldn't tell). There is now a blizzard of snowflakes bringing this to the forefront of the political correctness fight in our military forces, on both sides of "the pond". |

Words fail me…if true, as if there aren't more important things happening in the world at the moment. This is a logical fallacy. Not making an opinion in one way or another on the subject. However, it is possible to be concerned about this issue AS WELL AS more pressing or important issues as well. Damon. |

But Garand, this isn't an issue anywhere but in the minds of, as Thresher01 noted, "a blizzard of snowflakes." |

Actually it is not a logical fallacy. This takes time and resources to address which could be better spent elsewhere. |

I love how the Daily Fail is triggering people across the globe, instead of just in the UK these days. I note the word could is doing any awful lot of work in that article. |

So the 10 or so people in the British Army are going to have new titles? I think that is the current strength with all the cut backs, but I might be off a bit on my numbers. |
Oddball | 10 Mar 2021 1:46 p.m. PST |
newarch, I think the British news services have more contact and influence as many Americans no longer trust domestic news services to tell any story honestly. When I was in England (Essex) for an extended period of time at 18 I was a big fan of the page 3 or 6 girl. |
newarch | 10 Mar 2021 2:09 p.m. PST |
@Oddball I'm afraid the Page 3 stunner! (sic) bit the dust five or six years ago. I'm afraid we in the UK have just the same hyperbolic media as everyone else these days, they're currently getting considerable news coverage out of Harry and Meghan vs The Palace, having largely exhausted coronavirus and Brexit in recent months. As for your crack at the extremely small size of the British Armed Forces, we prefer the adjective term bijou. |

Harry and Meghan are one of the top stories on CNN right now too. I'll leave it at that. |
Oddball | 10 Mar 2021 4:39 p.m. PST |
There was a very funny political cartoon today about how Harry and Meghan are a distraction from other events. If you look it up. Page 3 is gone, oh, well. It has been many years since I laid my head on a pillow in Essex. |

Guessing the next thing will be is you can't call them 'infantry', because it's like calling them 'babies' (probably the aggrieved group that will push for the change. ;-) As for calling superiors 'sir', easily changed by having the lower ranks come up with new ways to address them (I'm sure many epithets would be popular for that… ;-) |

As for calling superiors 'sir', easily changed by having the lower ranks come up with new ways to address them (I'm sure many epithets would be popular for that… ;-) That reminds me a bit of the early communists getting rid of ranks. A friend's brother left the Australian Army cause it was getting too "namby pamby" and too politically correct. He was an NCO (RSM) but found new rules pretty much neutered any disciplining of soldiers.
Aussie military has gone too insane efforts to diversify and destroy "Male Anglo-Saxon warrior culture." Winning wars is less important than politically correct tokenism. |

Seems a lot of that gender, sexism thing going around these days … Winning wars is less important than politically correct tokenism. Sounds about right … for the current situation occurring in the USA as well … Harry and Meghan are one of the top stories on CNN right now too. I'll leave it at that. It keeps many of the masses minds' off more pressing crisis going on in the USA. As we speak … err … type … |
