Ged asked me to post this for him, the first of a range of US Army figures for VN from Gringos40 in 28mm. Obviously he has so far concentrated on Marines and the NVA/VietCong and he felt US Army gets less attention from figure makers. I am sure we will see this painted shortly but he does have nice detail around the torch and other kit carried

Looks 'bone weary'. These ranges ooze character.

Skarper, I totally agree. I have figures from the USMC, VC and NVA Gringo collections, but the Marines have buckets of personality and animation. The others are nice, don't get me wrong. If the army figures are anything like the Marines they'll be a huge hit.

This shows a preview of some of the new US Army figures.

Dying to ask, what are the detail differences to US Marines? Different flak jacket I do recall…..nice animation in these.

Just saw this tonight from Ged.

This is exceptionally good painting of facial features I think

That's a really nice sculpt and superbly painted too.

It captures the facial features and the 'gait' of an African American very well.

His uniform has faded a lot, but maybe he's 'short'. The OG uniforms faded fast and took on a pinkish hue from the red soil/dust. Or so I have read.

The soil on the base is nice and red.

Well I will be honest and say, from the photos, especially the first above, I feared some of these were a bit "short in the leg" (the classical Front rank look).

Now I have the first five I take it all back. It may just have been the full cargo pockets, but, in reality, these beat the Marines frankly and they are perfectly proportioned. Best yet I think…….

This chap looks less relaxed than the rest of the new releases!

This is such a dumb question, but I am going to ask it anyway. Can I put shoulder patches, name patches on the chest etc onto these chaps, who are clearly in a very light order of dress?

I did say it was dumb

Skarper28 Mar 2021 6:36 p.m. PST

I think you certainly can add these details. Subdued patches started to be used during the conflict – I believe – but for Elan reasons some units were loathe to adopt them.

Name patches are going to be tiny – and would be black I think. White ones sometimes pop up in films and TC shows but it's not correct – AFAIK.

Rank insignia look nice in the yellow on black, but I think these were more often the subdued version or left off entirely.

Others who were there will know better, of course. I'm just going by photographic evidence.

Yes, I will again add the thanks I expressed when I did finally show my 101st with coloured patches. we learnt more on their use, in the responses, also.
