Things I didn't know I didn't know about 17th Century staff work:

The military history of this penod emphasises the battlefield and disdains siege and manoeuvre. However. this was a period when battles were rare. and wars hung on precisely these considerations. The cliché has it that the soldier fights as much with spade as with musket. and what follows is a history of the general's war of the spade. It will concentrate on the every-day labour of war, and on the early modem my's stmggle to transcend its environment. beginning with an examination of the quotidian of war in Chapter 2, below. It will be argued that the capabilities and skills of war were overwhelmingly drawn from the means of the contemporary "economy of knowledge," the skills available in the agricultural economy of the age.

Light-touch biographies of leading Austro-Imperial Field-Marshals; details on logistics, the Great Convoy, pioneering, siege engineering and bridging, educational attainment and military treatise publications of Austrian Staff (v good even though no Staff College), and goes into artillery development including Liechtenstein.

Maybe behind paywall:

Although we don't see eye-to-eye on the issue of your role on TMP (understatement of the year), I acknowledge and thank you for all the interesting, non-gaming related posts you've contributed over the last decade, many of which I have commented on. Be grateful that you've been such a big part of TMP for so many years despite all the ruckus you've caused. To look on the bright side, "all good things must come to an end."

And this is as graceful a bowing out as any.

I'm surprised to see my name listed. I said that you should have more self control, post 50% less than you do, keep your posts relevant to wargaming and obey the rules about naming sources for links. That is far from supporting you. It is proposing a change in your behaviour which would, I feel, bring your posting to an acceptable level. Not desirous, just acceptable.

As it stands, I think you are in danger of appearing like a spoilt child who is being asked to behave reasonably but continues to throw a tantrum. It's not a good look.

Ah Tango, forgive them, they don't grok the pleasures of being a news junkie!
The wonderful experience of exponentially growing human knowledge, science and fantastic inner worlds exploding in ones mind exploring them.

Just in case you do not already know them, some gems of mine for you, not especially related to the hobby, but perhaps 'of possible interest' for you.

So, Napoleonics is it?
I knew, there must be something dark and sinister about you which is to fear and disapprove.
