This is mission 2 in a small campaign I am doing to get in some 6mm WW2 games. I am using a variant of Platoon Forward to generate the missions and opposing forces. I started with a Russian green company and they are still all green. While the game narrative is all handcrafted, the mission status may seem a little dry as I am using a spreadsheet to keep track of the Company and also to generate the missions. Second game in and I change from my own rules to give the recently released Rapid Fire Reloaded a go. Full battle report on the blog:

Great stuff Shaun, very enjoyable, as always. Would prefer 20mm, but will happily take the 6mm! ;)

Interesting fight, felt a bit strange though at the end. It seemed like the Russkies threw everything they had at the Germans, but just couldn't take that German MG out! I think that's why it felt strange; all this stuff happening but the German MG still holding out, but re-reading it I noticed the MG was still there but all the rest of the German infantry was knocked out.

The Soviet mortar commander should probably be sent to a penal battalion, couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, though this was more than made up for by the Tiger's unwillingness to jump in and mix it up! I was looking forward to a duel between it and the Soviet ATGs, but the Russkies beat it the smart way, choosing not to take it on directly.

I'm glad you enjoyed, wasn't sure how it would work for you playing RFR on a small table, but sounds like it worked. And I'm with you, it's really jarring to go from playing games where you only activate a fraction of your forces to a game where everybody goes, and I definitely agree with you about using card activation for solo games.

Jack

@FlyZwire – Thanks!

@Jack – the German MG is dug in, hard cover, and a base needed a 6 to score a casualty and you need 2 casualties to destroy the MG in one turn (3 actually in the rules but that is too hard!). Rolling two 6s from only a small number of bases was never going to happen :-(. The Russians were also focussed on the objective rather than the MG, painful as it was to some squads that routed due to the MG.

I am glad you enjoyed it. Haven't forgotten 20mm but need to look over the Operation Jupiter scenarios first. RFR worked with the small forces – I wasn't sure either! And card activation coming for my next RFR game.

Shaun,

Yeah man, I gotcha on the German MG, just sayin' he really proved to be a tough bastid!

Don't misunderstand, I'm really loving your Soviet campaign, I'm just partial to Operation Jupiter. Can't wait for your next game, whichever theater it is.

V/R,
Jack
