I have had photos copied from my website of my games and the perp. claimed them as his own or otherwise gave me no credit. Yes, I got a bent out of shape over it. I make a point if I ever use someone else's image I give them credit. Just as I would if I was quoting from someone's book. As far as I am concerned it is the same thing.

Thresher0101 Mar 2021 11:13 a.m. PST

Sadly, Tango01 and others are not supposed to provide links to new kickstarters, and/or new miniatures, or miniatures ranges either, according to the new policy.

Therefore, I now find it necessary to go to other sites in order to try to get info about those, if the companies or individuals are not advertisers here.

I suspect I'm missing out on a lot of new offerings from companies and individuals, but I don't really know for sure. Given the above policy though, I'm sure that is highly likely.

I guess I'll need to find and bookmark a number of other sites in order to get this info, like I used to be able to get here in a single place.

Sadly too, Tango01 used to provide a lot of links to interesting minis and other things, e.g. peoples' blogs, etc., etc.. Many of those I never would have found without his help, so that will be a major loss for me, and I suspect for many others.

von Schwartz ver 201 Mar 2021 11:25 a.m. PST

Y'know those Slim Jims will last longer than an unopened Twinkie?

John the OFM01 Mar 2021 12:07 p.m. PST

Let's see. Tango01 keeps announcing Kickstarters for manufacturers who do not pay TMP for the free advertising.
Tango01 keeps linking to malware sites and sites that offer pirated copyright violating books and rules.
TMP has rules against this, but he doesn't think rules apply to him.

I won't go into taking material from blog owners who do not want him to. Some see no problem with that, but surely they have problems with the above?

John the Greater01 Mar 2021 12:29 p.m. PST

he is at the top of my list of TMPers that I'd like to have dinner and a beer with.

Let's all gather at Los Inmortales in BA. Beer's on me.

I'll second John the Greater's comment.

Wish I could afford to travel to Argentina to meet him.

La Belle Ruffian01 Mar 2021 2:16 p.m. PST

Tango, whilst you now have the time to provide fuller responses, perhaps you could tell me how many of your blog link threads I've posted on in that oddly specific timeframe?

Or the percentage of threads on the front page with unique thread starters and how few have no responses, compared to so many of yours? For example, Tuesday and yesterday, or today? (smile)

I'm joking of course, but thank you for demonstrating in your reply why someone who hadn't really noticed the blogging issue until it arose, did some research, then saw how you insulted actual content creators, before deciding for myself that this bullying endorsed by many on this site wasn't right.

John the OFM, I agree that one rule on limiting new threads would be easier, it's punishing the majority. Just like expecting every blogger to add every wargames space other than TMP to their whitelist and restricting their availability. Like locking your vintage car in the garage and opening up every time for your friends, rather than leaving it on the drive whilst you sit on the porch, because some joyrider keeps driving it around the block without paying for the gas.

John the OFM02 Mar 2021 11:52 a.m. PST

Bill said earlier that a proposal to limit the new threads per person to 10 daily was voted down.
This is where he should put his foot down and put on his Editor hat.
Obviously he sees a need to limit Tango01. Somehow. The step he has taken is overwhelmingly unpopular. I tried and can't find the site or page.
I even experimentally started a new thread with a YouTube link. Nothing happened. Did the Staff get tired of cleaning up?

I'll admit that I don't miss Tango01's contributions. Gresham's Law maybe?
But others find his contributions valuable. To each their own.
I think that taking Tango01 off Double Secret Probation and limiting the sheer number would be the ideal compromise. In other words, one that would please nobody. grin
Crediting a blog in his text, by name, would be a nice gesture.

I suggest that WITHOUT TAKING A POLL that Bill make an arbitrary editorial decision and impose a daily limit FOR ALL TMP MEMBERS of 10. Or 12. Or 15. Or 5.
This would force whoever feels the need to post multiple threads to prioritize the most important ones.

Doug MSC Supporting Member of TMP02 Mar 2021 4:00 p.m. PST

Sounds like a good compromise John. I don't read all of Tango's contributions but I do find many that I'm interested in and he has introduced me to various things in the hobby I otherwise would not have known. So 10 or so limit a day for everyone sounds fine with me.

Personal logo javelin98 Supporting Member of TMP02 Mar 2021 4:26 p.m. PST

Seriously, what are we coming to? Do we need to start putting up Muppet Show-style disclaimers?

"Warning: This poster is posting posts that are extremely post-like and may offend certain readers by their very existence."

If you don't like what Tango posts, go post your own stuff and ignore him. Too many people complain about Tango's prolific posting but rarely ever start any of their own threads.

arealdeadone02 Mar 2021 5:31 p.m. PST

I was wondering why the Ultramodern forum had died off recently…now everything is explained.

Shame cause I don't mind a lot of Tango's links. Some are stupid but at least they promote discussion and participation.

Stop trying to make sense and use reason arealdeadone … There maybe too many pitchforks and torches already to quell the masses. The mob is angry, they want blood ! noose

Where's Wyatt Earp when you need him ?!?? 🤠

von Schwartz ver 202 Mar 2021 6:23 p.m. PST

Uh oh, better watch it!! I think the VA dialed back on Legion's meds!

Now Legion, you know perfectly well that Wyatt Earp and all the other sheriffs and marshals have been de-funded. We shall need to call in the Social Worker to mediate and de-escalate the situation….that is if the Clantons don't shoot him first. Of course that could turn out to be a win-win.

Zephyr102 Mar 2021 9:38 p.m. PST

I think a problem a lot of people had is that they couldn't identify Tango's posts from the title, and clicked them when they didn't want to.
A simple solution would have been to "bell the cat", i.e. put a marker in the topic title to identify it as his (such as an asterisk.)

John the OFM03 Mar 2021 3:47 a.m. PST

Again, that would be singling out one particular person for "special" treatment. That would not be good.

If you navigate TMP from the front page, however, the name of the OP is shown right there.

Wayniac03 Mar 2021 3:59 a.m. PST

Again, the major issue IMHO is there's no way to identify an actual discussion from a Tango link. Many many times I click on what looks to be some interesting topic and it's just a blurb and link from Tango. In fact I've made a game of it where I try to guess based on the title of a given post if it's a Tango post or not.

Many links are good and interesting, and without Tango posting them I'd never have known. But it drowns out REAL topics with what are basically deceptive titles that you click on, see there's no substance just a link to some other site, and then have to back out.

Fix that, and there's no issue. It would be obvious the post is a link to something and not a discussion topic. In fact, what would be so difficult about him tagging something in the title to indicate it? Surely that would be the best both worlds. He could still post on all the forums and people who are interested in seeing what the link is can ignore them. my opinion something that is just a link to an external site should be required to indicate that in the title of the post via something. [LINK] or [EXT] or some type of marker to denote it.

My two cents.

Thanks,
Wayne

If you navigate from a board, you're correct.
If you navigate from the front page, the OP is identified.

Yeah as of late the lunatics are running the asylum …

Fall Rot09 Mar 2021 5:37 a.m. PST

To be sure, this site does have more Tango than Gomez Adams' record collection, but going from from 30+ new messages per day to a limit of 10? That would simply be a case of moving the goal… (wait for it)… posts.

No, seriously, who's this Tango guy everyone keeps talking about?

Gomez Addams ! thumbs up

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP10 Mar 2021 2:33 p.m. PST

Never 'eard of 'im.

Who does he play for? If he is a striker, we will take him at West Ham United. We have our player from Tango's homeland already, but he is mostly on the bench these days.

Funny how this "ban Tango" thing seems to have sorted itself out in the end. In statistics it is called regression to the mean, I believe, ie everything stays much the same in the end.

von Schwartz ver 210 Mar 2021 6:30 p.m. PST

I certainly hope deadhead is just pulling our collective teats

Fall Rot11 Mar 2021 12:27 p.m. PST

One interesting consideration is that there are those who have have very reasonably implied there is a monetary mechanism which is somehow related to Tango's activity here.

Thus, we must inevitably conclude that problem here is both with Tango AND Cash.

At the very least, this might a doable plot mechanism for sequel to the 80s movie with decrepit Stallone and Russell reprising their original performances, and Pfeiffer as a GILF

and I see poor old Tango is back in the Dawghouse once more. He is truly getting to look like Steve McQueen, the Cooler King, in the Great Escape.

Starfury Rider18 Mar 2021 6:20 a.m. PST

"Posting commercial links against forum rules" is given as the reason. I don't know what he linked to and the post has been deleted it seems.

There was a swell of support for Tango, and despite my many chidings (and sometimes just swearing at the screen) of his posts, I was and am glad that he's still posting here, and made the compromise of adopting a much reduced rate of output.

He will still have to post within the rules and regs of the site, as does everyone. He will have to self edit and self censor before hitting submit, and no one can do that for him. If in doubt, ask the editors or Bill for clarification beforehand?

Adapt and advance, Tango.

Our Editor has asked us to wait and see what's in store. Some sort of change must be coming. I felt that the flood of new postings from Tango this week was a little much. Some of them were a stretch as far as being relevant. I am interested to see how it turns out.

Wolfhag18 Mar 2021 12:22 p.m. PST

I guess what I'm not clear on is how do you introduce a new game you saw and want to tell others about it. Do you describe it and not post a link and let others search for it?

Some of them were a stretch as far as being relevant.

Well, he does need to make up for the lost time to keep up his average of 50 postings a day. <smile>

I think (stress think) announcing something new is probably OK if you provide "added content".

"Joe Bloggs has just released the Waterford Light Horse in 6mm" would break the rules. Instead provide a review warts and all, offer comparisons with what is already available, even "just" paint them up and base them. Contribute something extra, do not just seek to advertise for free.
