A solid spell with the airbrush has seen me finally finish a mix of tanks that have sat waiting for paint for some time. These are all various kits from Plastic Soldier Company in 1/72. I've wanted to try the ambush camouflage scheme on one of the Panthers.
That goes with a hard edged camouflage, for which I use Silly Putty as my masking agent of choice (it works remarkably well). So that inspired me to try something a little bit different with one of their PzIVH kits. Instead of trying the spider web pattern freehand I thought I'd try it using masking to give it harder edge.
A little less colourful but always good to see what you can do with colour modulation to break up a solid green base coat. This is a Sherman M4A4 painted for Burma (crew member is from AB Figures).
The PSC Churchill set allows you to make up an AVRE with a petard mortar, something very handy for bunker busting in those Normandy games.

Gorgeous, the Pz IV spider web is really disruptive – be good to see that snuggled into some of your terrain for the full effect. Is the AVRE also for Burma? I've never seen big markings like the 2B, no doubt the pencil stub fired out of the petard, where do they come from, a photo? |

I don't think they had any in Burma. The decals came with the Revell rerelease of the Matchbox AVRE, but I actually don't know which unit it relates to, I just liked the way it helped break up the solid colour. |

There's a 79th Armoured Division emblem on the front plate. |

As always, very nice work. I just finished building the MK IV H variant. Being so jerky about this stuff, I cut off the turret hatches and will replace them with one off to the side. Love your ambush paint job. :-) |

Ampersand's photo book on the Churchill Tank, Part Two has a very nice picture of an AVRE on 6 June passing through a small town. "Bulldog" has the large number/letter combo on the turret. The "B" is clearly visible but the number is obscured by crew stowage but could be a "2". According to this source the large number/letter combo designates troop and vehicle number. "Bulldog" is from the 5th Assault Regiment, 79th Armored Division. The tactical number for this Regiment would be 1233. "Aberdeen" on the model here carries 1234 which places it in the 6th Assault Regiment of the 79th. |

Good work on the paint jobs! Regarding the German camo schemes do mask and spray them or hand paint the second and third colours? Cheers! 😊 |

Good work on the paint jobs! Regarding the German camo schemes do mask and spray them or hand paint the second and third colours? Cheers! All three colour are sprayed on. In this instance I used masks for the hard edge but I will also spray freehand without a mask for a softer edge if that's the look I want. There's a post on my blog about doing this that you might find useful: link
