I have started to present the Austrian guns of the SYW. Have been forwarded awesome primary source material. It has some news to anyone believing he knows about the looks of the Austrian SYW ordnance. Have a look if you like. Cheers, Christian crogges7ywarmies.blogspot.com |

I have some Hessian artillerists that have removed their uniform coats and stripped down to waistcoat and shirts. I have the waistcoat colors but what color were their undershirts, white, blue, or, like the French, red? |

Thank you, Christian, for adding to the narrative on Austrian artillery. A first rate job! Just this week I received a copy of the Smoothbore Ordinance Journal #3 that is devoted to Austrian Artillery. This mention is to aid others who might want to have yet another reference on this elusive specific subject. Main articles are "Translation of Dolleczek- History of Austrian Artillery" and "The Evolution of Austrian Lichtenstein System". Edited by Dr. Stephen Summerfield. It is published by Ken Trotman Publishing and dovetails nicely with your work. Thanks again for making your research public here on TMP for all of us. |

@Dye4minis, I did also order Summerfields vol3 of the Smoothbore Ordnance Journal along with vol 6 that has my article on the Prussian artillery. I never bothered to ask Ken Trotman for an authors copy. Publishing the initial 1753 ordnance is important for the initial range of guns was much lighter then the tables in works such as Dolleczek show. Especially the 12-pdr. The true archievment of Liechtenstein is only revealed when presenting this initial range, especially when you consider that its designer Feuerstein wasn't at all convinced those guns would be any good. I found a quote of him in vol 1 of the Austrian generalstaff history pre WWI of the war of Austrian Succession. I think Liechtenstein had to force this man designing the range despite his objections. |

From what I understand, Liechtenstein was on a crusade to lighten the weight for the movement of the guns. He seemed to have had an appreciation for mobility of the firepower! Seeing that you are from Germany, have you ever been to the Liechtenstein Hunting Lodge, not far from Tubingen or Stuttgart? If so, did you ever notice the guns parked in the shed, just behind where the the photographer took this picture? link |

@Dye4minis, No, I have never been there. I possibly should. Will consider that as soon as anyoying Covid lockdown allows to get me a decent beer at the location before going to work examinig the guns. Go ahead of getting vol 6. Stephen Summerfield did a very good job editing my funny Non-English speaking English original paper. It has a lot more background story then my BLOG articles on the Prussian SYW artillery. |
