I normally use Citadel black primer, but they are out of stock on the GW website at the moment. I'm concerned that other primers might not dry as thin and clog up details. Can anyone recommend another black primer, preferably based in the UK so shipping is cheap that drys nice and thin? |

In Australia I use Wattyl Super Etch black primer. I understand the equivalent in the USA is Rustoleum Etch Primer. I would seach for an etch primer (if the undercoat is for metal figures) |

Halfords… definitely the best value |

Another vote for Halfords. |

I use Krylon primers or flats as primer |

I like the camouflage sprays at Walmart |

I go to my local Asian run car parts shop, and use the car primer from there, as it is cheaper than Halfords. sma1941 sorry to inform you, there are no Walmart's this side of the pond. |

Vallejo comes out very thin. I have been having a problem on resupply though. I've recently started using Rust-o-leum. Costs about 1/3 as much, about $4 USD a can at Home Depot. |

Army Painter or Halfords for black. Lidl occasionally stocks Baufix special metals primer which is dunkelgelb but gives a good base to spray or paint black on. I tend to use a combination for metal, but Army Painter alone on plastic. |

Not what you are asking for but I recommend investing in a compressor and airbrush and using Liquitex Gesso. It comes in black (also gray and white and clear) and can be sprayed. Thin for spraying 1:1 with Liquitex Airbrush Medium. Also can be brushed directly, when that is needed. |

Definitely Halfords matt black my go-to spray, and when it's too cold/damp outside like now, and sprays don't dry that well, I have a large tub of Rowney black gesso (brush-on) from Hobbycraft as my get-me-through alternative (like others I'm impressed by how this doesn't obscure details when it's dry but takes far longer than the spray for large batches of figures) |

Avoid spray-on blackboard paint as, while matt, it is likely to be very coarse and chalky designed to encourage the white 'chalk' to adhere to it. This might destroy fine surface detail on some models, it could be like painting them with tar. Barry |

Home Depot "Quick Cover" flat black spray paint has worked well for me for years. $.98 USD/can is a great price. |
