I finished painting my Gripping Beast Viking Hirdmen and I want to order either the Warlords Hail Caesar Saxon Thegns or the GBP Saxons and I noticed they are very similar to the Vikings if not the same, I guess they are produced by the same manufacturer Wargames Factory. Any advice on how to paint them so they do not look so similar? I know the shield paintings are different and even the Hail Caesar version comes with decals. Thanks. |

Not sure wether I understand the question. Wargames Factory produced a set of Vikings and Saxons years ago that are no under production with Warlord Games. Gripping Beast did the same, though both lines (WG and GB) are different and not easy to kitbash, though you can use them within the same unit to some degree. |

Thanks Puster, actually I am looking for a Saxon army to oppose my GBP Vikings. I am looking for models that look fine on the table and at the same time different than my GBP Vikings, somehow, maybe it's just me but I find the GBP Saxons very similar to the GBP Vikings Hirdmen models. Lets say I go with the WG Saxon Thegns Hail Caesar models, will this be aesthetically ok? Size, models? Thanks |

Despite what TV producers would have you believe, the appearance of Anglo-Saxons and Vikings would have been pretty much the same… |

Hi, well, my concern is more about being the same model/cast so they will be wearing the same outfits and details, hope I am mistaken, the Hail Caesar Saxon Thegns should be in my hands soon enough. |

maybe it's just me but I find the GBP Saxons very similar to the GBP Vikings Hirdmen models Indeed, the bodies for the Gripping Beast Saxon and Viking models are very similar, though there are some differences in details. However, when it comes to the rest of the pieces in the kit, there are noticeable differences in the heads. Also, the Saxon thegns can be almost fully armed with spears, while the Vikings have a mixture of spears, swords and axes. As for the Wargames Factory (now Warlord Games) plastic saxons, they tend to be a bit on the slim side compared to Gripping Beast figures. Also, at least the unarmoured ones are in rather dynamic poses that are more suitable for skirmishers than ranked up warriors – in case you end up buying the Gripping Beast plastic set of Dark Age Warriors, the spare slings (and javelins) from that set work pretty decently on these figures. |
