February 10 – Online: 7 p.m. (CT). Minnesota Military Museum – Join in this presentation to hear about how food was used as a Weapon of War in WWI. Nearly 10 million Belgian and French citizens faced starvation in the opening months of the First World War. While the occupying German Army disrupted farming and food supplies, the British used a naval blockade to stop foodstuffs from entering all ports. This weaponizing of starvation, long a tactic in the siege of major cities, suddenly was used against an entire nation. Starvation as a weapon of war was used again in World War II by the Nazis in their assaults against the Russians, Ukrainians, and others. Cost: No cost. link |
