I am just glad you decided to keep it civil. |

Actually, robot comes from Czech, via the 1921 play "Rossum's Universal Robots" (Rossumovi Univerzální Roboti) by Karel Capek. Interestingly, Capek's robots were what would now be termed androids, being organically grown rather than mechanically assembled. |

The Czech language got the word from Russian, specifically Old Church Slavonic. The word shows up with the same meaning of a worker in the local translations of the Bible by St. Cyril's acolytes in the 9th Century. This use of the word both changes the form of the word from "orbu", meaning slave to "rabota" meaning a generic worker. Karl's own brother Josef used the word in a short story before RUR was written, though that is somewhat less than a 1,000 year precedent. |

I am just glad you decided to keep it civil. I am a civil servant. Neither civility nor servility are requirements for the job. |

You are a civil savant, who also likes to deconstruct click figures as well as various toy animals. A veritable deconstructing destructionist as it were. |

During the last few months of enforced isolation, I have had a few brief but engaging conversations with my dog, Muckart. His observations on many things, if widely broadcast, would ensure him a lengthy period in the D*wgh**s*, appropriately enough. However, I felt it worthwhile to share his take on the original response to the original response to the original instruction, all provided in the original posting here. Having carefully considered the posted image, he gazed patiently at me and communicated, "That's exactly the kind of response that could be programmed into any 'Bot' if it were asked to confirm it was not, in fact, a 'Bot'. But if all these responses are themselves checked automatically, would the Irony be recognised? Or would one of ye Humans, if they're checked manually, as it were, think some Civil Servant was playing games? Think about it, Big Dug." He returned to gnawing his rubber Chew-Ring, then paused and grinned with an almost atavistic display of yellowed fangs, "D'ye think the poor creature is located in Crete?" |

That's exactly the kind of response that could be programmed into any 'Bot' if it were asked to confirm it was not, in fact, a 'Bot'. But if all these responses are themselves checked automatically, would the Irony be recognised? Or would one of ye Humans, if they're checked manually, as it were, think some Civil Servant was playing games? Captchas are checked mechanically by algorithms. Just like there is an industry devoted to developing such things, there is also an industry devoted to subverting them. There is also a hobby focused on subverting them, for self-satisfaction (at the intellectual challenge) rather than nefarious reasons. D'ye think the poor creature is located in Crete? I have not been to Crete for many, many years. I wouldn't mind retiring there, unless China owns it by then. |

I hate when you have to take a test to prove you are not a robot.🤖 E.g. shows a dozen little pics and you are supposed to pick out which ones are boats, cars, etc. Sounds like robot bigoty to me ! |
