Has anyone any experience with the Captain WW2 range of figures from Stonewall figures? I am particularly interested in how well they may fit with Revell or Italeri plastics. Cheers.

I understand that Stonewall is a known recaster of other people's ranges. That particular range – previously sold by Fantassin – is known to have been "obtained" by Stonewall from another company. The actual sculpter of the range, the owner of Xan Miniatures, has not licensed the range to Stonewall, or the company from which Stonewall obtained the moulds. The sculptor has litigated extensively in order to prevent the sale of these pirated copies.

The pictures you see on the web page are from the original Fantassin website, depicting these fine figures as they then were. The moulds Stonewall uses to make their pirated figures are completely shot and the figures you receive if you make the grievous mistake of ordering some will not look like those in the pictures. They will have loads of flash, bad detail and missing weapons. I know because I have several sets of them.

If you want to fact check any of the above, get in touch with Xan Miniatures and ask them at xanminiatures.com/en or follow the myriad of discussions on this and other miniatures forums, for example:

Ah, thank you for the warning. I didn't realise that. I will avoid in that case.

Yet they continue to be listed in the Manufacturers Directory with no warning.

The original Fantassin 20mm WW2 were quite nice figures. One of the platoons in my US late war company is made up of them. Whilst not quite up to AB standard they paint up well. Sounds as if the versions offered by this particular retailer may be poor copies and best avoided.

We all should give Xan a chance to get his ranges back out into the market. He is sculpting new figures and will be re-releasing others. No need to support a know recaster.

try cp models, tqd, shq or elheim. You'll want these skinny manufacturers to match plastics. fantassin are/were nice models

Thanks Simo. The CP models look ideal. Cheers.
