I have a copy of Sauron by SPI. Its part of a trilogy so I just decided tonight after rediscovering it that I would check out the prices of the other two to make a set; $225 USD….!!! Might leave that…. Thinking this was absurd I had a look at 2 other boardgames I have, both well used. Objective; Moscow by SPI , $500 USD Cobra from S&T, $215 USD Seriously??? even my V1 'Car Wars' and all supplements are north of 40 buck. Crazy….. |

Not just 'old' games, but 'old' books too. "Armies of NATO's Central Front" by Isby is anywhere from $500 USDUS to just under $1,000 USDUS. It is simply the best reference for Cold War-gone-hot gaming, but at that price? No thanks. |

New game prices have gone mad recently. Command and colors Napoleonic Base game was on sale in the UK for £160.00 GBP+ before Xmas. Now it is back to its more usual price just shy of £70.00 GBP |

I'll say it again. It worth what someone will pay you for it. Many of these large collectible gaming/book warehouses have high overhead. After processing a item, they must get their costs out again. So they are willing to wait for the right buyer. Also they can claim devaluation on their inventory or even get a loan of the valuation of their stock. |

You may want to go to Boardgamegeek and under each entry there is an option to see a price history both from Ebay and from the BGG Marketplace. That will give you a more realistic idea about what something will sell for. In the case of certain SPI,, AH, and GDW games, it really depends upon how many were printed, the condition of the game, and in the end what someone wants to pay. Surprisingly, Noble Knight and Amazon do sell some of those games at unbelievable prices, but mainly to people who either a) want the game regardless of cost, b) they can't wait anymore and need it now, or c) just don't want to take the time searching the various online marketplaces. I've found that by just being patient you can usually get most games at a fair price. |

For Ebay sale prices, don't discount bidding mania. Back when Hasbro was selling of the contents of Avalon Hill's warehouse, I watched a bidding war over a copy of Circus Maximus go over $150 USD, despite the fact that the warehouse sale had them going at $7 USD! |

I recently saw the old zip-lock Chaosium game Nomad Gods go for £150.00 GBP-00. I watched it knowing that I was not going to get a bargain, but that game comes up very rarely so it's probably not under-valued. The seller started the bidding at £15.00 GBP-00 so they were not being greedy. One dsy….. |

Kropotkin303 it took me over 30 years for me to find a copy on Nomad Gods, So It a really hard to find game with a recklessly low print run. |

Maybe I should put a few old things up on eBay then. |

The price of old boargames? The glorious results of a misspent youth! Yeah, as above, what someone is asking is not necessarily what something will sell for. The fundamental law of economics is that an asset is worth what you get for it. There is no can, could, will, or should in that statement. There's a certain vintage game that I like because I want the dice from it. (I do also reuse the game board.) I have it marked on a few sites and watch the price hover around $30 USD, then dip a little. Then it drops to $5 USD and I but two or three. Then it spikes back up. FOMO is the buyer's enemy. |

I'm glad there is some normality out there; I've no wish to part with any of mine, but hopefully will be able to add to them without a second mortgage… |

Like baseball cads in the 1989s before the bottom fell out. High prices are based on what clients are willing to pay. The realistic worth is often much lower. Some of the high values are based on not only an unpunched condition but both the map, rules and box cover being in pristine condition. Even price quotes on eBay are what people think they are worth not what people actually paid. Amazon when I post books as Crimson books will listed a suggested price. If your list is higher or much lower than they recommend. They will not allow it and put it as inactive. For sample on the high side I have a copy of Funckens Chivalry, all three, two they allowed and one they said I wanted too much at $25 USD so they inactive it. I have several examples of my wanting too little. One is Ospreys book on South American war of Independence. I only wanted $16 USD and they said that I had to list in the $40 USDs. Heck I have eight new copies of it!! I have four copies of the S&T magazine game Cobra, so I regard that one as way over priced. I even have two copies of Fortress America but the box condition is not the best. Other examples of actual worth are out there. |
