Hi, I am starting a conquest of Mexico project. I like those Foundry 28mm Aztecs, they are amazing (any other recommendations?). I would like to find suitable Spanish counterparts. Foundry has some Conquistadors but they look more like expeditionary guys after Incan gold instead of the Spanish Army soldiers with the Halberd and the Conquistador "Morion" helmet. Thanks, cheers! Any advice on where can I find what I am looking for? also advice on where to find Aztec wargaming scenery Pyramids, temples, houses etc. is welcome. |

Eureka Miniatures do Spanish and Portuguese Conquistadors, but I don't know how size compatable they may be with Foundry. Firelock games may have some usable items, tho they are sure to be overlarge compared to Foundry. Acheson Creations has some Meso American structures, but they are more village than temple oriented. Stonehouse Miniatures has an Aztec buildings section, tho I'm unsure what scale they're trying to represent. There seems to be a lot of stuff on Etsy, tho I've never dealt with them, so I can offer no informed guidance. Hope this helps. |

The Assault Group : link and Tercios: link have what you want. Don't know about size comparisons with Foundry though. |

The Foundry Conquistadores are perfect for the conquest of the Caribbean, Mexico, and Peru. The famous "Spanish Morrion" with a high comb and turned up sides became common only after the middle of the sixteenth century. Early conquistadores used simple cabacetes, bascinets, and steel caps. |

Thanks everybody for the excellent and attractive recommendations, I never played this period and never imagined there were so many interesting options. I am considering all of them and will decide soon which way to go. |

If anybody wants to make and army for the time of the Conquest of America, the times of Cortés or Pizarro, I recommend the ranges of Wargames Foundry and The assault Group. I researched the documentation for that era and send it to both brands when they were beginning to make the sculpting of the models, so I can assure that their figures are historically accurate. You must flee from morions, that type of helmet appeared in Europe not before 1550. And the halberd was a residual weapon among Spaniards. Sword and buckler armed "rodeleros" was the most usual type of troops for hand-to-hand combat. |

I built my Trastamara army using mainly TAG, but Foundry, Eureka and Gringos40 are fine minis, too. I do not own the others. Here is the link to the Wargames Atlantic project. From design to sprue in your hand it may take half a year, though, so depending on your timetable these will be too late: link Not sure wether you can actually buy Conquistadores from Wargames Foundry. I did not find them on their website when I last looked. When you look at their Conquistadores you chould take a look at Gringos40 Aztecs, too. link link |

Thanks again all. Puster, Conquistadores in Wargames Foundry are in the Pike & Shot section as El Dorado Adventurer Characters. That was one of the reasons I started this topic because I was not sure if they were historically accurate as portrayed by WF. But it seems that those fictional characters are actually closer to their historical counterparts than the so called historical products made by other companies. =) I live in the Texas-Mexico border, I lived many years in Mexico before and I am sure I've seen many illustrations, paintings, movies etc. when they depict the "typical" Spanish conquistador with Morion and Halberd, even in government's Secretaria de Educacion text books. Now I suppose is a wrong concept. |

I have many posts on this topic on my blog – I recommend, as others have, the Wargames Foundry line. The OWS stuff is good too, but I'm preferential to WF. Here's my latest group: Sword and Buckler Men for Feudal Patrol! link |
