"Setting their sights on a conflict at the very end of the world, Russia's marksmen have staged a series of training exercises in freezing temperatures, hitting targets at long range and concealing themselves in snow drifts.

The press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that the grueling drills had been carried out by army snipers based in the Far East region of Transbaikal, almost 5,000km east of Moscow.

As part of the wargames, snipers practiced shooting mocked-up enemies at ranges of up to 1,000 meters in temperatures of -35 degrees Celsius (-31 Fahrenheit) throughout the day and night…"

Yeah … just another day in Paradise for them. When I was in the ROK, '84-'85. We had -30 to -40 with wind chill … Too damn cold !!! 🥶 Them Russkies can keep it !

The Russians are tough. They are and always have been. Food for thought.

I operate at -40 degree temperatures all the time, but inside the cockpit I adjust the temperature to a balmy 74. ;-)

Shooting even a normal gun at -30 is very complicated. Of course these guys have special clothes and mittens, but having experienced two very cold winters during my army service I'm a bit surprised, that their balaklavas are not covered with icicles, there's no vapour from breathing, and generally these mittens look very thin…
BTW, we had -20C this week in Moscow ;)

Yes to doubt the Russians are some tough SOBs is a mistake …

Doing anything in extreme cold like that makes operating that much more difficult.

Today where I live in NE Ohio, USA it about 25 before wind chill, with wind at about 10-15MPH. 🥶😬

Nice thing about operating at 40 below zero-

No one has to ask if you mean Celsius or Fahrenheit.

Shooting even a normal gun at -30 is very complicated.

Doing pretty much anything at those temperatures is complicated!
