One of my vivid memories from the Cuban missile crisis was of lunch discussions over what we would with our last 15 minutes after the warning was given. We didn't have a shelter but after the crisis a pre-fab shelter emporium opened near our neighborhood. |

I remember my parents considering having a "fallout shelter" built in our back yard in the 1950's; each of their families had a tornado shelter on their farm. I don't recall what dissuaded them from doing so. |
