Get a friend with better English language skills to help phrase your questions and requests. Many TMP'ers will be glad to help but some will have confusion over what the questions actually is. For example where you said 'us amazon' did you mean Amazon in the United States? Also 'tons of battle scene's'; did you mean pictures or did you mean battle descriptions? Sorry can't help with Austerlitz, not my period. |

Hello, There are plenty here willing to help you regardless of your English language skills. There are quite a number of Austerlitz books on the market with lots of illustrations starting with Austerlitz by F.G. Hourtoulle – available in French and English Osprey's campaign book called Austerlitz by David Chandler Austerlitz – the Glory Years by Scott Bowden – probably quite expensive now Books with less illustrations include: Austerlitz by Claude Manceron – out of print I would guess. Austerlitz 1805 by Christopher Duffy Austerlitz. Napoleon and the Eagles of Europe by Ian Castle 1805 Austerlitz. Napoleon and the Destruction of the Third Coalition by Robert Goetz. Should be enough there to get you started. Regards |

And you wonder why people don't get into Napoleonic history with a response like JimDuncanUK. I frequent French websites, and even if my google translate isn't 100% correct, not one has given me a response like yours. Are you saying that people who are not native English speakers are not allowed on this forum? I would imagine we are a community that would prefer to help everyone. Most of the stuff I am reading is German or French, and I am neither native in those languages nor proficient enough without a translator. Yet, I still try to read them to get a full picture of the events instead of relying on English secondary sources. Since Austerlitz is not your time, why did you respond? His question was very simple. He wanted a book on Austerlitz that can be found on Amazon with battle pictures. The next poster below you clearly understood the question. |

I second the Hourtoulle book, especially if you are looking for lots of color illustrations. Unfortunately, it's not cheap. link |

Extrabio1947, That is a great book, but I have some color issues with the plates that cause them to be faded. Does anyone else have this problem? |

This is strange. Jim Duncan was perfectly reasonable in just saying phrase your question carefully, to get the best response. I am regularly now posting on to a French site re the 2eme DB of WWII. But I keep my sentences short and rely on Google and my schoolboy French. It is just commonsense, if you are seeking information. Strangest, in view of the vague nature of the request, is to hear "thanks ive seen most of those", suggesting quite a library already consulted. |

And you wonder why people don't get into Napoleonic history with a response like JimDuncanUK. Thanks for your support deadhead. I thought I was being perfectly reasonable in trying to help our new TMP member. He did include the phrase 'need help' in his title line. We haven't had the two questions I have asked answered so we are still guessing as to what help is being asked for. |

Jim, I apologize for my rant and miscommunication. I find opening up with get a friend with better English language skills to help phrase requests not very welcoming. It could be that I am married to a Colombian woman and have heard this response too many times when my wife speaks to people even though her English is better than mine and she speaks four languages. |

I apologize for my rant and miscommunication, but I find opening up with get a friend with better English skills to help phrase requests not very welcoming. Apology accepted gratefully Mike. I worked for over 40 years in an internationally recognised and populated educational institute where 'English' was always recognised as the best starting point for any conversation but there was always room for other languages/dialects/gestures once the ice was broken. It would have been normal for me to say the equivalent of 'hi, how you doing mate' in more than a dozen different languages every day but that privilege has been taken away from in my retirement years. Once I did struggle a bit with an undergraduate from Eritrea who wanted to know whether his submission should include a separate chapter on maintaining an AK47 and a short wheelbase Land Rover in his thesis on arable farming in a desert community. |

Some years ago someone posted a TMP inquiry entirely in Spanish. On a whim, I cut and pasted it into Google translate and, lo and behold, the inquiry was for contact info for a gaming group just 2 counties over. I composed a response, translated it into Spanish, and posted it. The OP was thankful. I was afflicted with Spanish spam for the next 2 years. |

This is the better area for posting questions AND looking for answers. Like I tell people on the other hobby forums, do a search [of other posts] for your subject matter before posting a new topic- you may be pleasantly surprised how much data you find already there. ::::: TMP link Getting Started with Napoleonics – For assisting new players. The Admin could move it… regards dave |
