"A new video from the YouTube science channel Kurzgesagt tackles a very serious question: What would happen if we nuked the moon? The science channel runs down a scenario in which a massive thermonuclear device is detonated on the surface of the moon, and what that would mean for astronaut observers, orbiting satellites and space stations, and even people on Earth…" Main page link Amicalement Armand |

Cheesy indeed! The Cold War spawned a bunch of crazy projects like the CIA's Acoustic Kitties and the UK's Blue Peacock (nuclear bombs with chicken powered heating systems) |

Interesting video! For those who don't feel like spending 8 minutes watching it, the conclusion was: We should never do that! :)

When I taught HS history (35years) I taught a survey semester course in US military history. It was very popular because most of the faculty did not go into any depth on the military side and a great many kids wanted to know more. One year we were discussing weapons and the, then, Soviet Union. One freshman eagerly waved his hand and said he had a plan to beat them. Intrigued I asked him to explain. He seriously said that he would put rockets on the back side of the moon and AS THE EARTH ROTATED BENEATH the moon we would fire off our rockets and slam the moon into the Soviet Union. I am happy to say that most of the class just looked at him amazed at what he did not understand. He didn't pass the course either but that is a different story entirely. H |

The Clangers would launch a retaliatory strike, followed by ground invasion by the Froglets with Iron Chicken support. |
