Well, beats the heck out of "Space Cadets!"

Which will probably become the new epithet for starting bar fights of the future.

Great, because they needed a new element of farce added to what is already a joke.

Thresher0122 Dec 2020 2:40 p.m. PST

I am uninspired.

Space Marines is better.

JimDuncanUK22 Dec 2020 3:18 p.m. PST

I like a laugh.

Rudysnelson22 Dec 2020 3:22 p.m. PST

Well at least it is not Power Rangers.
I get the feeling that this is going to be an officer heavy organization?

15mm and 28mm Fanatik22 Dec 2020 3:23 p.m. PST

Cadets are trainees so would not be appropriate, and most Space Force members are probably non-combatant computer jocks so "Marines" would give them too much combat cred. Here are some other possible titles:

Enforcers
Astros (if Houston hasn't trademarked it)
Space Jockeys
Defenders
Pioneers
Beyonders

Will they have a raccoon for a mascot?

Maybe their motto will be "I am Groot!"

How about simply calling them "Spacers"?

But what exactly is the Space Force going to be used for? Will we have combat personal on the ISS?

USAFpilot22 Dec 2020 4:59 p.m. PST

But what exactly is the Space Force going to be used for?

Good question. My guess, they'll do what US SPACE COMMAND has been doing since 1985 until they were disbanded this year.

Oh, I forgot:

Trekkers

Maybe if he had won, he planned to invade Mars?

Space Marines is better.
But they are not part of the USMC. huh?

You must have missed my earlier thread here on the US Space Force …

the first mission of a United States Space Force would be to protect American space-based assets against enemy attack and to strike at those of an enemy in time of war. Satellites can be hardened against attack or made easily replaceable by reusable rockets that can be launched on demand. Enemy satellite killers could be destroyed before they get into position to do their work. When the United States fully develops such a capacity it will also deter a war in space, to begin with.

As I said on the thread … "Regardless, it will be a long while before we see "Space Rangers", etc. Most of the "combat" in space in this respect will probably be orbital assets, like HK satellite and ground based missiles, etc." …

I don't get the angst over Space Force. It is literally a continuation of the US Space Command as a separate force rather than as part of the Air Force as mentioned above. The US Military has had this command for decades. If a certain president hadn't called for it, I suspect it would have been met with yawns. If you were to disband it, it would just go back to the Air Force, as the job itself would not go away.

I guess some people expected it to be more like this…

That's just silly.

Extras in the products of Tom Delonge's fevered imagination and later, Elon Musk's film debut "Moon Landing 2: Mars Colony Tesla"

The Mil Ofc Assoc. of America I belong to and I am on staff. Had an unclassified briefing recently from a member of the USSF … Anything like e.g. Musk, Delonge, etc., was never mentioned. Not because it was "classified", but it's untrue … 😯

IMO the USSF should be called – US Aerospace Defense Force. At least for the near future. Once/if "Space Troopers" like we see in Sci-fi, etc., do come about, if ever. The US Army, USMC/USN, USAF probably will have a branch like the Army Airborne/Paratroops, Air Assault Troops, Rangers, etc.

They will probably all come from Spec Ops units like Delta, SF, Rangers, SEALs, etc. But even if this happens this is a loooong way off …

Albeit based on this article we already may be too late huh?link
