Helion have just released Laurence Spring's new volume about Sir Ralph Hopton. Mine has arrived quickly (no mean feat considering the post is overloaded at the moment)

As always excellent work from Mr Spring. I am very pleased to say that Helion have got this one right – good quality artwork (artwork has been very hit and miss in a number of their older volumes), and general editorial standards have been raised.

From my skim through this looks like a 'must have', in the same vein as Old Robin's Foot, More Like Lions, and Spring's volumes on the Eastern Association and Waller.

Thanks for that. Another purchase beckons.

The only problem now is I think I might have to paint Sir Beville Grenville's RoF now that I know they had painted musket rests and pikes.

Hopefully mine should be lurking under the Christmas tree, 😁.

Laurence Spring is always great

Yeah the stripy pike rgt is sort of backed up by contemporary source, though it refers to Grenvilles TB company very early in the war. Quite possible that G had the rest of the regiment matching later on but not confirmed. Almost compulsory for a wargames army though 😉

Fingers crossed Timbo, it's excellent. A much needed volume: Parliament's armies seem well served by the Old Robin's Foot approach, the King's armies much less so. Newcastle's and the Oxford Army in dire need of this sort of treatment

To say nothing of the Irish Catholic Confederates.

The Oxford Army is in hand, albeit maybe 2 years off, sadly Newcastle's might be somewhat more elusive due to the scarcity of primary records in comparison to other regional forces, but I am working on it.

I should add the the Irish Confederate Armies are in hand as well, so expect a book within the next 18 months.

Best wishes
