Another year is coming to a close, and what a year it has been. We have all passed through its various ups and downs (mainly downs). But there is at least one more trial that we need to put you through. Yes, the ending of the year also means the start of your confessing season. So whilst you don your cloth sack and ashes, we will heat up the poker until it is bright read and smear it with weasel grease. It is time hear you confess your gaming crimes! Our previous confessionals have discovered a nest of miscreants and deviants: TMP link . How many more of you are out there waiting to unburden your foul deeds and beg for mercy? I suspect many. Your fellow TMPers will listen to your crimes and pass their judgement on you. Will they be lenient (highly unlikely) or will they find a novel (and humorous) punishment best befitting the crime you have so heinously committed? Our fair and just proceedings can only begin once we hear your gaming confessions. So it is time to confess, confess, confess! - Do you not use an electron microscope to ensure you trim the bayonets of your troops so they are exactly to scale with a real life version? Confess! - Was that building you used in your mid-Renaissance game set in central Italy more suited to a late-Renaissance game set in southern Italy? Confess! - Are the portholes on your 1:6000 scale ships not painted to the historically correct shade, taking into account wear and tear since the ship was first launched? Confess! - Do you dare to use any Sherman to hand on the table? Regardless of what variant was historically used in the battle you are trying to recreate. Confess! Confess your gaming crimes! Confess now whilst grovelling for your fellow TMPers forgiveness and possible leniency. Do it now and don't forget the weasel grease… |

I 3d printed 28mm ww2 Italian Bersagliere, on an FDM printer. |
Herkybird | 21 Dec 2020 11:45 a.m. PST |
I definitely have used US vehicles to represent British ones. I use terrain from one area to represent another. I paint for speed and not for accuracy. For these and many other unspeakable crimes I humbly beg forgiveness from my fellow gamers! |
Parzival | 21 Dec 2020 11:45 a.m. PST |
I stopped painting the underside of my 10mm strip-mounted fantasy figures, especially the backs of the front ranks.. Clearly I need absolution! |
robert piepenbrink | 21 Dec 2020 12:26 p.m. PST |
I have played fall and winter battles with summer terrain. I have even played fall battles with the uniforms unfaded from their spring issue colors. I have even used Crusader I's and II's to represent Crusader III's, and used 15mm and 18mm castings in the same army. What are indulgences running these days? And can I use PayPal? |

Even judging by this early selection of stomach turning crimes it looks like we will have to order in an extra vat of weasel grease. Also, where did I put that big box of rusty pokers? |

I havent gamed enough this year – enough said |
Timbo W | 21 Dec 2020 3:01 p.m. PST |
I couldn't find orange paint so my Russian napoleonic NCOs have been left with simply white pompoms rather than quartered orange and white. Forgive me for I have sinned! |

I'm sickened by the little we've seen already! But I also must confess, and for years past as well as 2020! I started Modern gaming about 3 years ago, and have several hundred figs, about 20 vehicles, several helicopters, dozens of scatter type terrain, and numerous buildings all cleaned, based, and primed…and not a one has any paint other than primer on them. Not one! It's a sickness. I seek a absolution through my confession! |
Frederick | 21 Dec 2020 3:07 p.m. PST |
I routinely use generic WSS infantry battalions as SYW units I also have used Napoleonic French as Mexican infantry to beef up numbers storming the Alamo Not to mention using Rohan lancers as medieval sergeants Mia culpa, mia culpa, mia maxima culpa |
altfritz | 21 Dec 2020 3:19 p.m. PST |
I have mixed 20mm SYW infantry with 15mm Napoleonic Cavalry (and a few infantry). In my defense: They were all painted! |
etotheipi | 21 Dec 2020 3:47 p.m. PST |
I painted underwear on the underside of Highlanders wearing kilts. I painted the beer in my Old West patrons' the shade of an amber bock. The oranges I put on a streetside stand were the size of grapefruit. |
Mserafin | 21 Dec 2020 4:28 p.m. PST |
I do not paint eyes on all my 28mm figures. I must commit sepuku. |
robert piepenbrink | 21 Dec 2020 4:34 p.m. PST |
Frederick, what size were the figures? At 15mm and under, it becomes a minima culpa. Medea culpa is 20-25mm, and only at 28mm and larger does it become a maxima culpa. |
Chimpy | 21 Dec 2020 7:48 p.m. PST |
I spent days researching UK and German Warship camouflage. I even downloaded a spreadsheet of the closest Vallejo colours. And then I went with colours closest to what I could see on my monitor – near enough is good enough I decided. I deserve to be drummed out of wargaming for that transgression. |
ezza123 | 22 Dec 2020 3:10 a.m. PST |
Frederick and Robert Pipernbrink, I think you may be granted some degree of leniency for any gaming crimes you may have committed by coming up with, and quantifying, the Minima, Medea and Maxima Culpa scale of travesty. But of course it is up to other TMPers to see if they too agree to a very rare award of leniency. Ezza |

I have used Thomas the tank engine taxi for the Marne, but I did repaint it. |
ezza123 | 22 Dec 2020 6:24 a.m. PST |
In the spirit of looking for mercy I must, alas, admit my own crime. I had labelled up a Massachusetts unit for an ACW game. These brave boys were going forward underneath their state flag…well, a state flag anyway. The flag they were under was a Vermont state flag. The only defence I can mount is that Vermont borders Massachusetts, so at least their flag was from a New Englan state. Does this mitigation help to lessen the sentence you will no doubt impose? Major Mike | 22 Dec 2020 7:23 a.m. PST |
I have used troops painted and flagged for the Western Theater of the ACW in battles in the Eastern Theater and in early battles there too. I have freely mixed 25/28mm figures in Colonial games. |
skedaddle | 22 Dec 2020 7:49 a.m. PST |
My brothers, I confess, I have used 1815 French Infantry as state militia for my War of 1812 games. |
GildasFacit | 22 Dec 2020 1:46 p.m. PST |
I have never bought anything from GW. I'm still waiting to see if they ever make anything that interests me. |
robert piepenbrink | 22 Dec 2020 4:27 p.m. PST |
Thank you, ezza123. But primary credit has to go to my wife Sharon, a devout Catholic, who introduced to this Methodist the concept of minima culpa. I think it was for punctuation errors. Or possibly putting whites and colors in the same load of wash. |
Dukewilliam | 22 Dec 2020 8:36 p.m. PST |
I use any old Cotton Jim's state flags for brigades in F&F. I am sure I am using units not present at the battles my scenarios represent. And the same with ECW flags. I just use the ones that I like. I am not sure whether they are Royalist or Roundhead when on the table. They could be on the wrong side, or mixed. I feel better. Steve |
Bashytubits | 23 Dec 2020 12:53 a.m. PST |
I must confess further transgression, we also 3d printed an Italian WW2 Bersagliere in 1/32 scale for a 1/35 vehicle no less on an FDM printer. |
von Schwartz ver 2 | 25 Dec 2020 7:11 p.m. PST |
Father forgive me for I have sinned! Used the wrong shade of blue for my Prussian SYW dragoons Using leftover GNW artillery for SYW Mixed Minifigs 15s with FreiKorps 15s Used leftover Napoleonic Cavalry for SYW cavalry, with some minor modifications. |
Cardinal Ximenez | 12 Dec 2021 6:51 p.m. PST |
I once painted the epaulettes, cords, beavers, horse furniture etc of a unit of Grenadiers a Cheval with a shade of aurore that was a bit too orange. Absolute heresy.
