Marine Fighting Squadron 211 waged a determined defense of Wake Island against Japanese planes and warships before its Leathernecks fought to the bitter end as infantrymen.

If anyone is interested in reading more about the heroic fight of the Wake Island defenders you should check out "A Magnificent Fight -- The Battle for Wake Island" by Robert J. Cressman and published by the US Naval Institute Press in 1995.
