You have to start somewhere. Baby steps. The idea of Space Force is good for the long range plans of the future.

It's good to see that the Space Force will be wearing camouflage uniforms. Will that be for just in the office, or while in Space also?

And where are the Red Shirts?

Great. Now all the Trekkies are gonna join.

Yea, pretty much everyone in the modern military wears camouflage uniforms; even all those support personnel sitting at a computer in an office. It's a ‘one size fits a all' approach.

Well as many know I'm a fan of camo uniforms, having worn at least two versions myself along time ago. old fart

However, I think it's a matter of a standard as each branch generally has it's own camo uniform, just like a Dress uniform, etc. In this case the USSF will be wearing the Army Camos. Camos is more of a "work"/duty uniform in many cases. Without having another uniform besides Class Bs, Class As, Dress & Mess Dress uniforms. At one point all branches wore the BDUs. Simplified the supply chain if nothing else.

I think the branches went to different patterns of camos for ID purposes. If for no other reason than unit es sprit' and make it easier to see which branch is which. Especially with the media. I know I've seen too times in the media they mix up the Army, USMC, etc.

"Camos" are very functional and comfortable. Based on my experience with Camo Jungle Fatigues and the BDU. The military is referred to as the "Armed Forces" after all …

Now in general I think some don't understand the mission of the USSF. We had an unclassified briefing from a CPT from the new branch. At a meeting of Mil Ofr Assoc. of America about a month ago. They really, at this point are more of an aerospace defense force for orbital assets. link With generally most if not all of it's units being on the ground. Most of the time. They are far from being an orbital space based defense force, at least at this point. So no Space Rangers, no red shirts, etc.

From the link :

the first mission of a United States Space Force would be to protect American space-based assets against enemy attack and to strike at those of an enemy in time of war. Satellites can be hardened against attack or made easily replaceable by reusable rockets that can be launched on demand. Enemy satellite killers could be destroyed before they get into position to do their work. When the United States fully develops such a capacity it will also deter a war in space, to begin with.

Yea, I get what you're saying Legion. Every member of the armed services, from tip of the spear spec ops forces to the clerk in personnel and everyone in between, has shot the rifle in basic training and could possibly find themselves one day in "the bush" taking fire.

Yep … you got it !

I don't see why they can't wear black laceless calf boots, black pants bloused over the boots, and mock-turtleneck tunics in MOS color* with the Space Force insignia on the chest and rank indicated by stripes on the cuffs.

That would look awesome, am I right?

Well Space Force cammies explains this: link

Well … I think that's been done. The problem I have with many if not all the ST uniforms. They don't look functional, more like pajamas … or look like something one would wear at a Christmas party. Now ST Enterprise at least made the crews uniforms look somewhat functional. But of course, my favorite were the addition of actual combat troops aboard. With the MACOs, who wore a camo combat uniform. link

Well Space Force cammies explains this:
Yes those are a well known Urban type camos. It might work if onboard a (space)ship too. For assault operations. But on the ground on a planet, that would vary by terrain, just like here on Earth. E.g. we have camos for desert, Winter/snow, and tropical/temperate.

And of course the USN's "Aqua" camo … it looks cool and I'd guess if you were painting parts of the ship. The paint stains wouldn't show … as much … 🤔

The Star Trek uniform idea of red, blue or yellow shirts came directly from how the US Navy uniforms it's personnel on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. The various colors denote functional areas of expertise. It makes sense and is very practical. I think because of budget restraints Star Trek limited itself to only three colors when more would have been appropriate. For instance the red shirts were both engineering and security. And blue shirts were science which included medical which should have had a separate color. This way everyone knows the basic functional responsibility of each person they interact with aboard ship. Really a simple yet ingenious idea.

I know that, I even have friends who were in the USN(!)[don't tell anyone!] and have seen those different colored shirts on the deck of a CVN. In the media, movies, etc. And know they ID the function of the sailor. E.g. ammo, refueling, etc.

ST for better or worse had their own "take" on uniforms based on the various series/movies. It is Sci-fi after all.

That being said, I do have a working knowledge of the Klingon language … 👽[don't have any Klingon emoticons]

I really think that they should consider wearing a bricole as an aguilette….

"Yes those are a well known Urban type camos."

I was joking. I was thinking black/grey/white cammo would be great for the moon.

I thought so Dn, but I wanted to make it clear to others who are not Vets, etc. thumbs up

The aircraft carrier turtlenecks from the 1970s and 1980s were super comfortable and long-lasting, too.

Thresher0120 Dec 2020 12:12 p.m. PST

I really could care less about their uniforms.

I'm more interested in their vehicles, weapons, and tactics.

Info on their combat space suits would be nice too.

Well they do look colorful and for a good reason.

I really could care less about their uniforms.
Well they are wearing US Army ACUs now. But that will probably change.

I'm more interested in their vehicles, weapons, and tactics.

Well much of that is/will be classified for some time I'd think. Regardless, it will be a long while before we see "Space Rangers", etc. Most of the "combat" in space in this respect will probably be orbital assets, like HK satellite and ground based missiles, etc.
