Does anyone know of any stores that carry Super 78 Spray Adhesive by 3M, preferably in California?

The only sources I've found are on-line, where it needs to be shipped to your home, and the price runs $20 USD – $30 USD per can with shipping. In order to get the cheaper price, you need an Amazon account, which I don't have.

I'd like to make some foam models, and apparently this is one of the better glues for that.

Super 77 has been recommended by some, but apparently there are a couple of versions, and conflicting info on it (possibly due to the different formulations). My guess is the "good stuff" may have been removed from the CA formulation, so may or may not work as advertised by some.

The plus side is I found a can of this at Walmart for $10. USD

I'd like to be able to glue large, flat pieces (say 1' x 2', or 2' x 2') of XPS (Extruded Polystyrene Foam) to one another permanently, so would like a really good bond, but that still permits easy cutting with a wire cutter.

Apparently, Latex Caulking with Silicone may also work as a good adhesive, but I don't know if that can then be cut easily with a hot wire cutter. My guess is, since it is thicker, it will be harder to cut through with a hot wire.

Found the super-strong 3M formula, 99(?), at Wal-Mart. Check the paint and glue aisles.

Caulking relies upon solvent evaporation, to cure. Can't recommend it for your purpose as it will never fully cure.

There are brush-on contact cements which will also work. They have nasty chemicals, so IF you can find them, only use them outdoors, away from ALL flame sources. They give off Ether, I beljeve; heavier than air, extremely flammable. They will work quite well for your needs. Brush on both surfaces, wait 20 minutes, then press together, firmly, and done. Cheers!

Some have even recommended two-sided carpet tape, so I might need to check that out too, if I can't find the 98, and the 97 isn't strong enough.

98 is supposed to work best for foam.

99 is for rubber and vinyl.

I work alot with blue extruder foam, some adhesives melt it.
Also get alot of spray adhesive so could try a experiment.

I'd be interested in reading about any other adhesives you care to test.

Thresher, where in California are you located? If you're in SoCal, anywhere near the San Fernando Valley, you might want to try "Foam Sales" located at 1007 W. Isabel St. in Burbank, a block or two South of Costco and just West of Victory Blvd. Call ahead first to make sure, but I have purchased it there in the past, when buying foam to build terrain boards.
