These remind me of the old SAE (South African Engineers) Miniatures. Does anybody remember those? There was a tourist attraction in Chattanooga called "Confederama" that displayed a diorama of the "Battle Above the Clouds" using thousands of SAE Miniatures. Wonderful memories. |

Tourist "attraction"? You mean "trap". They got my money 30+ years ago. Not terrible, but very dated then. I did like the effect of smoke coming from the cannon barrels, one of the features I remembered. |

I visited the Confederama on a family vacation in 1962 when I was sixteen. That was some 50+ years ago during the Civil War Centennial. My younger brother and I, both budding Civil War buffs, were totally blown away by the huge diorama. It was all our parents could do to pry us away from it. They also had a good selection of SAE figures for sale! I still have one or two of them. |

Around summer of 1972. Got out of the Army in January of '71. Wandered around, went to college, traveled to Tucson Arizona to hook up with an old friend. He was house sitting for a month. We got gas station jobs, saved up all of our money (except for beer) and then took off for NY in my 1960 Karman Ghia. I believe it was Chattanooga where we ran low of money. We had $4 USD between the 2 of us. My friend bought cigarettes and I went to Confederama! I got the better end of the deal with a lifetime of memories and his cigs lasted a day or so… |

SAE. I had a slew of the that I bought cheap in an antique store here in Houston about 25 years ago. Mixed the nicely in my Napoleonic army. Foolishly, I sold them off about 10 years ago. Nostalgic. |

After Britains – SAE figures were my first gaming figures. There was a shop that we would visit that sold them and ever time we went my Dad (a figure collector) would buy me a set. I still have many of them. |
