Another command base finished, this time it's the main man, from the Dixon miniatures range as always.

More pics and details in the blog link below. Thanks for looking.

It's wonderful to see someone posting pictures of nicely painted figures from his own blog.
I've always liked Dixon figures. Great job.

Cheers guys! Thanks very much John! Glad it's appreciated. I only planned on buying a few Dixon figures just to give them a go, then got totally hooked.

Is that Longstreet who is holding the Book of Grudges?

Shaitan15 Dec 2020 4:00 p.m. PST

John, no I've got Longstreet on his own command base. That guy there is Major Charles S. Venable.

Beautiful work. I don't know who the one with his hands in his pockets is, but he looks like he feels like he doesn't really belong there.

PaulCollins, thanks very much. He's an engineer so not one of Lee's general staff.

Very nice! Really like that line of miniatures.

I have quite a few I need to paint up.

Why is that party of dwarves wearing confederate uniforms?

Beautifully painted composition but the anatomy's dreadful.

Leonardo would be horrified.

The criticism is not unfounded. I have made up a diorama of Quantrill's raiders from the Dixon range and, mounted, their fantastic casting is obvious and it works.

But on foot. Even here, a glance at the facial features, or the folds of the clothing, shows the modelling work that has gone into them. But the proportions? Their knuckles are dragging along the ground. Massive heads on short torsos and tiny, tiny legs.

It would take so little work to transform all of these, but doing so would invalidate everything produced up to now.

The painting shown here is superb, but helped by the quality of the modelling too. They are not quite achondroplastic (the arms are too long), but not far off it.
