So, I bought a box of Perry ACW figures, and now I'm wondering what would be a suitable set of rules to use with them. The figure size means corps level actions are out, so probably I'd want something where I command a brigade or smaller unit, down to skirmish level (which I suppose means commanding a company in ACW terms). I'm interested in western battles, Glorieta Pass to Mill Springs, and have visited many of them, though that may not be a factor in rules. I visited Avery Island, Louisiana, once and was interested in the Union raid to destroy the salt works there. The raid consisted of several regiments of infantry with artillery support. I must also admit that I was fascinated by the 'gators swimming near the island, and would consider including them in a scenario, though perhaps in an abstract "Yes, it is fordable, but, no, you don't want to go that way," sort of fashion. For smaller games I like Rebels and Patriots. |

There is also Brother Versus Brother – but our group do quite like Rebels and Patriots |

If you've played "The Sword and the Flame" Colonial rules, then might I recommend "The Sword and Secession" variant. We developed it specially for those small-level actions such as raids. We even played an attack on a salt-works. Jim |

Sharp Practice is very popular for that size game. Lots of videos on YouTube. |

I'll second Col. Campbell's recommendation. That variant is precisely the rule set for which you're looking if you want to game actions such as you mentioned. |

TSATF is good. Brother v Brother is good. Sharp Practice is good. Johnny Reb is also good for a Brigade a side. Eric |
