Google "Don Troiani" and go to "Images." Or, go to Pinterest and search for "Don Troiani." You will get a lot of information and inspiration from his prints. One thing: Don't give your troops trouser stripes. They were for NCO's but even then rarely worn. |

Try this out link For a start, depending on scale you can do up a few generic blue coats for the Union and a few generic butternut or assorted grey jacket Rebs Then you can branch out to favourite units like the Iron Brigade, 114th Pennsylvania, Wheat's Zouaves, etc |

Don, Very nice guides! When I started my 15mm armies back 25 years ago I was using the early Osprey books (Army of the Potomac mostly) and the Haythornthwaite book Uniforms of the Civil War. Still have the latter. It was a great book for its time. When I started doing Confederates I had a somewhat large proportion of butternut. later when I found that it wasn't as common as gamers make it out to be I went predominantly lt grey, with some variations of grey mixed in, and only a few browns. This is such a great period to game, and my all time favorite. I am finally wrapping this period up this month, after all these years. I now have enough for F&F Brigade to do both sides of any battle. |

Stosstruppen: thanks for the advice on butternut. I will go with Grey variations. |

Another excellent source is from the "Painting War" line of painting guides. Issue #8, "The American Civil War" is excellent. It provides many full-color examples, variations, and troop types. The Guide bases information on Vallejo's range of paints. Excellent. |
