After seeing this thread I wondered if I could do the same with Stargate, Jaffa are cake since I can get them for about a buck each. The military personel would be harder. Any good ideas would be nice. Links help.

Anyways, here is the concept. Build a 2' x 2' (internal dimensions) box out of wood. About 4" deep. Have the bottom of it be made of magnetic sheet and the internal terrain be that of
1. Out door region
2. A futuristic city of the Ancients (Leaning towards this)
3. A Goa'Uld mothership
4. Something like Atlantis

Basic structure would remain the same, however since the terrain would be magnetized you could move smaller terrain bits around easily, and they would stay put.

All the figures could be magnetized as well. i figure you wouldn't want anymore than say 20 Jaffa, and 8 Stargate personel. Obviosuly one or two characters as well, including a System Lord type as well as one of the big Goa'Uld guns and maybe a team with mortars.

This would be the first time I have ever worked in 15mm scale so will have to learn about proper scale for buildings and such.
Hardest thing is gonna be the box and the 'Gate.
Well and the rules, I figure the rules would be fairly simple, I would probably strip down my current engine that I am using for my fantasy game, or else make it even simpler for my wife to play. She loves Stargate, but hates Wargames.

Any ideas, has anyone tried anything similiar?

Glenn

whered you get them from? the jaffa i mean….

GeoffQRF27 Sep 2005 11:10 p.m. PST

"The military personel would be harder."

I am working on a more generic range of modern figures. First out will be SLR, but I have just made the masters for the MP5 and P90…

In 15mm there is a range called Armies of Mythology by Dragonshoard.

The website is:

Anyways, the Stargate Yahoo group only has links for 25/28mm nothing else, I looked. Anyways I really dislike how Yahoo groups work so thought I would ask here to get opinions.

I do hope that the 28mm range from MJ figures gets done soon, I'd prefer that scale, but it would be interesting to try something else.

I think they are 20mm not 15mm, try GZG for something that may work.

Rassilon28 Sep 2005 10:55 a.m. PST

Indeed, Dragonshoard are advertised as 20mm.

GZG does 15mm.

GZG also does the military personnel and characters…but no Gouald characters…

As for buildings…couldn't help you…I personally would just trust my eye and compare with other 15mm brands of terrain out there…

Sky Captain28 Sep 2005 12:56 p.m. PST

How about just some 28mm Gouald to go with my pre-exisitng 28mm Moderns :X

Ooh, the Ground Zero guys are even cheaper.
I'll have to find pictures though as I am very picky about quality. Anyways, I am going to start making the building plans for the storage box and such tomorrow or Friday. I plan on having it be magnetic for easier storage as well as having the lid slide into grooves so I can slide it off. Also I want to have a nice handle that can be used to carry it. Hmm, I am just brimming with ideas. I just hope I can squeeze this into all my other projects, as this will wind up rather expensive, for me at least.
I figure the box will be the hardest part as I am very good with terrain and such. Ah well, I wish I could do it in 28mm though, that is my scale of choice, I refuse to pay $5 USD a figure on eBay though, and since I'll need about a dozen Jaffa (Assuming 28mm) that'd be far mroe than I would be willing to spend.

Too many choices to make, ahhh!!!!

Glenn, are you a member of the Yahoo 15mm sci-fi group? Or if not what groups are you in. I can post a picture of the GZG figs in one for you to see.

Glenn M29 Sep 2005 8:31 a.m. PST

I am a member of the stargate_wargamers and then the Stargate_Gamers/Overspill.

Whats the exact name of the 15mm Sci-Fi group, they may be ablet o give me some good ideas.

Do you have pics of the Assault team as well, with 4 characters and 4 regular dudes, it seems like an SG team clone to me. Anyways, either post pics or email them to me at biokanan at hotmail dot com.

Thanks,
Glenn

Hi Glenn
If you look in the Stargate main site in the Steve photos you will find some pictures of the GZG figs that I have painted so far, hope this helps.

infojunky30 Sep 2005 2:39 p.m. PST

Glenn The yahoo group is 15mmSciFi.

Come on in the waters fine.

Glenn M06 Oct 2005 7:12 p.m. PST

Well I popped over to the 15mmSciFi group and am checking around for ideas.

I am going to be ordering the figures from GZG as soon as they answer my email.

Glenn M13 Oct 2005 8:49 a.m. PST

Well I finished the basic board, now the main thing is building the terrain and painting the figures, the rules are almost done, they will have a free download when finished. My main issue is making sure they are counter balanced. Jaffa are not nearly as skilled as the SGC personell, but they are better at combat, so it makes it rather hard. I want to stick with very small numbers for the costs, so creating a simple addition method would not be very correct, but I am sure I'll figure something out.

Ok, now I'm curious. Did you finds something cool and you're holding out on us Dan?

;-D

Cacique Caribe09 Dec 2009 4:11 p.m. PST

I wish that was the case.

I posted a question on something that was said here, but found the answer elsewhere. So, I came back and deleted it. Sorry.
