From my reading of the period many of the exaggerations and fairy stories originated with Pinkerton's agents. They did not serve McClellan well during the Peninsula campaign. |

That is true. The exaggerated reports of Confederate troop strengths came from Pinkerton's agents. Jim |

He did save Lincoln from being assassinated in Baltimore on his way to his inauguration, though. |
