Hello All, I'm trying to find some more detailed information on this phase of the war in English, dealing with the campaigns of the Danes or of the armies led by Mansfeld and Christian of Brunswick. Few books cover it and they are priced beyond reality. Any ideas? Even following the routes of the armies is difficult. TPC |

For those interested, there is Count Mansfeld's "Directions of War" which does give some information on the regiments in his armies, and their tactics. link |

Hello Captain, Thank you for the link to the Directions of War. I've downloaded it to my TYW files. Here are two recommendations that might be of use. The best study of Denmark during this period is Paul Douglas Lockhart, Denmark in the Thirty Years' War, 1618-1648: King Christian IV and the Decline of the Oldenburg State, (1996). I have not yet found an affordable copy, but McGill University Library has a copy that should be available for inter-library loan. On Mansfeld you can download the PHD dissertation by Olli Bäckström, The German Military Entrepreneur Ernst von Mansfeld and His Conduct of Asymmetrical Warfare in the Thirty Years War, (2011). It is available at: link |

There's also Robert Monro's Observations that cover part of the Danish campaign, but really on a local level with his regiment. link |
