Back in September I took a look at work producing alternative options to the Warlord 74-gun ship of the line models with a smaller and larger hull for a 64-gun and 80-gun option.
In this post I look at how these models can look once rigged and painted in comparison to one another and specifically the smaller 64-gun option
The 64-gun third rate makes a really nice addition to the collection and is a simple model to produce.

Look good but seems a lot of work. I put together an AWI collection with smaller vessels. Would like to expand to the rated vessels as 64s and even 50s were common in North America. Hoping Warlord would make plastic sets of these. |

Thanks for your comments chaps. The work to convert these hulls is minimal. Simply sawing the completed 74 gun hull at various points indicated by the hammock nets allows the sections complete with serried gun ports to then be glued together, painted and rigged. I would estimate adding no more that two or three minutes to the building of each hull than if you simply glued the kits together as they come in the box. Likewise the investment to do this is minimal with a modelling saw readily available on Ebay or from a store for a small cost. The alternatives are certainly more expensive and I suspect waiting for Warlord to address these gaps in their offerings might be a forlorn hope or at best a long wait. JJ |
