I received an incredible surprise the other day. In response to a post I made here and on the Fife and Drum forum I received a new set of rivers for my table set up. These were made by Bill who runs Kings Mountain. Bill makes incredible terrain and the terrain of his bases for figures. They are diorama like in quality. Turns out Bill was working in making roads for one of his displays and took up this as a challenge. Can I make something like this?

There are two sets of rivers. The largest is 6" wide and about 12' long. It includes a number of pie shaped pieces to add twists and turns. There us also a section with a ford and another section with a smaller stream branching off from it. Then there are. A number of smaller streams about 2" wide. More then enough for any game.

The rivers were made from stretched canvas that artists use for painting on. Acrylic caulk is then spread over the canvas and painted with acrylic gloss paint. I asked for a very deep dark blue but you can use any color really. Lastly it us given A couple of coats of gloss medium. Smaller details like highlighting and a few dashes of white to represent waves add to the effect. The fords have small islands on them. They are covered in a static grass.

I like these very much and in the future will be seeing much use on my table. they are a very flexible system which is just what I was looking for. Bill mentioned that this system can also be used for making roads.

Thank you Bill!

Awesome layout here WillBGoode! I love the wildlife.

I was lucky enough to catch this write up on the acclaimed blog, My Brave Fusiliers earlier last month.

Bill not only produces some top notch scenery, his KMM selection is also excellent.

I have a set of roads similar to these river sections Bill was nice enough to send me, I can't wait to start working on them!

I think that's supposed to be me telling the geese to get off my lawn.

John, that figure of you is quite life-like. As is you mistaking the waterfowl for someone else and telling them to get off your lawn…

In fact the only missing is perhaps a pair of spectacles.

I agree, My Brave Fusiliers is an outstanding blog.

Glad you liked the rivers, boys!

To clarify those rivers were made by the original Bill, not by me. For some reason my efforts to type his user name keep getting bounced. Voldemort?

Can we also bring back quality TV shows that weren't scared of making a statement. With the exception of a few cable and online shows, TV programs today can't hold a candle to the shows of the '70s. Back then, writers, directors and producers weren't scared to take on heavy topics, to challenge their viewers and to push the envelope. Even sitcoms made brave statements: Remember Maude's abortion in her 40s? When James, the dad, died on Good Times? How about Mary Tyler Moore's adventures? Then we had Archie Bunker, Fred Sanford and George Jefferson, who were all totally politically incorrect in different ways and even unlikable, but they somehow made people think and question themselves while being entertaining. That's brilliant. We need a modern equivalent to Norman Lear, Burns and Brooks. Why have we resigned ourselves to drooling over vapid reality stars and dating shows?
Also while we're at it, Fondue!

One of many views I happen to share with author, Victoria Fedden.

I would bring back quality variety shows. You know, the ones with real singers. And comedians. And acrobats. And Topo Gigio.
Ed Sullivan, Dean Martin, Carol Burnett, Johnnie Cash, Glen Campbell, Smothers Brothers…

We need amateur contests? Masked Singers? Gimmicks?
No. We need quality.
